Prelude --- Sayonara Tomoyo San!
Tomoyo Daidouji is staring out the huge window of her room, thinking deeply about the present that she is going to give Sakura since her best friend’s birthday is approaching. Tomoyo has a bad infection lately that causes her to have fever often. So, even though it's a bright, warm day, Tomoyo is still in bed. "One more week", Tomoyo mutters to herself as her long, beautiful hair dances in the light, gentle wind. "I'm going to give Sakura the most beautiful dress, but what design will be best? Chinese or Japanese or Western styles...should I add flowers? Maybe light colors will be better but all colors look pretty on my dearest Sakura." Tomoyo smiles. Her mind is drifting back to the time when she first met Sakura, who loaned her an eraser that she treasured very much. Gradually, pictures of Yukito, of Sakura capturing the Clow cards flashed across her mind, and of Shaolang and Eriol flashes across her mind. "Sakura san has changed, and so has I, and so has our friendship. My dear Sakura is a beautiful butterfly and I'm her cocoon while she is still a caterpillar. But someday, she will transform and will leave this cocoon for better company and this day is not far."
"If you wish, this day can never come"
Tomoyo is shocked because she is supposedly alone in her room. Where does this voice come from and somehow, it sounds familiar. But quickly, Tomoyo calms down and asks in a cautious manner, "Who are you? Where are you?"
"Why, Tomoyo, don't you recognize me? How can you be so cruel!" The voice laughs.
"Excuse me madam, you sound familiar but I cannot recall who you are. Besides, it is really quite impolite to hide in this way. Please show yourself."
"Show myself? Why Tomoyo, I'm here already, I'm always here".
"Here!?"
"If you look up to your right hand side, you will see me."
Tomoyo obeys and looks to her right. There is only a vase filled with beautiful daisies, a huge cabinet, and a large mirror that produces a full size reflection of Tomoyo. "I've looked but I can't see you, where are you?"
"You still don’t understand, Tomoyo? I am YOU, just another part of you. Can't you see me in the mirror?"
"What!? You...you...you...are...me? Impossible! Nonsense!" Tomoyo is both angry and scared now.
"Yes, Tomoyo, it's a little confusing and you won't understand but you don't need to anyway. You're wrong, Tomoyo, Sakura is not a caterpillar. You are, and I promise you are going to transform into a butterfly, only a cruel and unusual one." The voice laughs again, a terrible, tragic laughter. As the laughter fades away, a strong light comes through the window. The light has the colors of rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, bright green, blue, and purple. "How pretty, what will become of me?", Tomoyo murmurs as she finds herself engulfed by the light.

"Congratulations, my dear mistress, you have finally awaken!"
"Thanks my fairies. Now, anything to report?"
"Tremendous, my mistress but I guess the most interesting news is the return of Clow Reed!"
"Return? You mean…"
"Yes, he has taken the form of a young boy --- Eriol. There is also a new card captor, a girl called Sakura, who seems to have modified the Clow Cards a bit and has huge potential".
"Sakura?...She must have been chosen by our clever little Reed to help him get back what he wants."
"It seems likely, my mistress. Unfortunately our brilliant Mr. Reed has made a severe mistake this time."
