First Movement --- The Orange Fairy’s Bouquet (The Warning)

"Ohayo, Sakura!"

"Ohayo, Chiharu! Thank you very much for coming last night!"

"Concerning about birthday parties, I’ve heard that years ago in Europe…"As Takashi tries to begin his story, Chiharu pushes him aside. "Sakura, if you really want to thank, thank Tomoyo. She’s the one who’s done all the planning and preparation!"

"Yeah, Tomoyo, Tomoyo!" Sakura calls.

"Sakura? Ohayo. What’s the matter?"

"Well Tomoyo, I just want to thank you for all the efforts that you have put in to prepare for last night’s party."

"Oh! You don’t have to thank me, we’re the best of friends, aren’t we, Sakura?"

"Of course!"

"Tomoyo! Sakura!" Rika calls.

"Ohayo, Rika, you look delighted. What’s happened?"

"Nothing really, it just turns out that there is a new florist down the streets and the décor are very pretty and the flowers fresh and lovely. I just wonder if you want to go after school with me to buy some flowers?"

"Well, flowers!" Sakura is thinking about the sickly Shaolang.

"Hey, Li-Kun has not come to school again today," observed Tomoyo.

"He must be sick as Li-Kun very seldom skips classes. Why don’t we buy some flowers at the florist and visits him after that?" Sakura suggests but finds that all the eyes stare at her…..

"Here is the florist."

The little shop is located toward the end of a tiny alley. Although it is small and quite hidden, the freshness and fragrance of the blooming flowers still catch many passers by for there has already been a small line of people waiting to buy the flowers for their beloved lovers. After a short wait, Sakura finds a beautiful lady approaching her.

"My name is Hanako and I’m the owner of this shop. Miss, how can I help you?"

"Oh, I..I’ve a friend who’s sick and I just want to buy a bunch of flowers for him."

"Oh, visiting the invalid, how about this bunch of daisies sitting here? She certainly looks lovely and encouraging."

"Hm….daisies, yeah, that’s a good idea. How much is it?

"Hey Sakura, so you’ve decided already. Daisies? Well, they look pretty. I’m sure Li-Kun will be delighted at the sight of this even though we’re not quite sure if he’s really sick."

"He is! Er…..I…mean, he……..he should be." Again, the blushing Sakura is the focus of attention.

"Oh my gosh! It’s already 5 p.m. I must leave for my music lesson!" Tomoyo says loudly.

"Yes, I must leave too for I’ve an important appointment at 5:30" Rika seems to pick up the hint.

"Wait, but you guys promise to go visit Li-Kun together!"

"Well, Sakura, I think we can’t make it. Why don’t you represent us and if Li-Kun is really ill, please help us to tell him that we wish he will recover soon!" Leaving these words behind, Tomoyo and Rika dashes off leaving Sakura on her way to Shaolang’s home --- alone.

When she is certain she is out of Sakura’s sight, Tomoyo turns back and smiles "Card Captor, let the game begin!"

* * *

Back in his tiny apartment, Shaolang is struggling with his illness. Ever since catching this flu, he becomes tired and can hardly move his limbs. Worse, the visit last night in the cold air seems to aggravate his illness. Now, all he can do is to lie in bed helplessly and occasionally stares out of the window. Soon, he finds his eyes fixing upon a girl, which he recognizes to be Sakura. He has no time for a pleasant surprise because he notices that Sakura is occupied in a fight!

"The key that embeds the power of the stars, please observe your promise and presents your real facet before your mistress Sakura, RELEASE! Watery!"

"Ah! Hahahahaha!!! Card Captor, is this all the power that you have got?" The lady who is dressed in orange suddenly puts forward her hand and shouts "Rainbow, Shield!" Watery cannot penetrate and is even bounced back toward Sakura.

"Fiery!" Fiery tries again but the effort is in vain. The shield is too strong and what is worse, Sakura finds herself very, very exhausted. "Impossible, how can this be? I’ve just used two cards so tired. My power should have already grown but why is this happening?"

"Who, who are you?" Sakura gasps.

"Who am I is not important, Card Captor. The only thing you have to know is that I’ve come to kill you and I’ll complete my mission. Well, you’re like a young kid. I think 10% of my power is more than enough. Rainbow! Arrows"

Suddenly many burning arrows are fired toward Sakura. "Shield!"

In a slim chance, Sakura manages to escape from being injured by the arrows.

"Not bad, card captor but you’re too slow." While Sakura is trying to escape the arrows, the lady in orange has already gotten behind her. "Good bye, Card Captor. Rainbow! Sword" But another sword that comes from behind is faster and cuts off the lady’s arm.

"Shaolang!"

"Sakura, sorry I’m late but it seems we have a pretty tough enemy here."

"Hm…a good shot kid but your attack is useless to me!"

To Sakura and Shaolang’s surprise, the cut arm of the lady in orange begins growing again. You two can never kill me! Not with these stupid weapons. Now, I don’t want to waste my time with you."

"Release! Windy!" Sakura attacks again. "Foolish kid, rainbow! Shield!"

"Ah! I see, Sakura, have you noticed?" Shaolang suddenly seems enlightened.

"Notice what?"

"That when the lady in orange is in defense mode, her hand has stopped growing."

"So? I don’t understand."

"Well, this means that when she uses shield, all her attention will be focused on maintaining the shield and she won’t have energy for anything else. If my analysis is correct, if she is already in defense mode, she cannot avoid a second attack. Hence, I think I should attack her to force her into defense mode and then you’ll attack her!"

"That sounds a good idea."

"Hm….hey kids, enough time with you already. I’m quite impatient. Rainbow! Golden Fish!"

"Spread out!" Shaolang pushes Sakura aside but his right arm seems injured by the golden flame.

"Hey, orange auntie, how about trying this, Water Dragon!"

"Hm…I’ve already said, your weapons are useless. Rainbow! Shield!"

"Now, Sakura!"

"Yes, Fiery!"

"What!?"

The Clow Cards' raging flames attack the lady in orange from behind. The latter tries to struggle to shift back into attack mode but the interval is so short that she fails and is directly attacked by fiery.

"You cunning kids……, let….let me show you my real power! Rainbow!"

"Hold on, dear orange fairy, come back!" A soft, tiny voice suddenly hurls around in the air.

"But mistress, I’ve almost killed them."

"Come back, orange, you’ve already tried your best but you’re already severely injured. Come back or do you want to disobey my orders?"

"I wouldn’t dare, mistress. Hm, you kids, you’re lucky this time but I’m sure I’m going to kill you the next time! Watch out!"

"Hew….Shaolang? Shaolang!?" Sakura is shocked to find Shaolang’s arm bleeding badly and his body is still hot. He has not recovered from his fever. "Sa…. Sakura" Sakura helps Shaolang to return to his apartment and nurses him to bed. An hour later, Shaolang wakes up.

"Li-kun, are you feeling better now?" Shaolang nods.

"Sakura, who’s that lady in the garden?"

"I don’t know. I was coming to visit you when suddenly a fiery spear came right before me. Then, that weird lady appeared and told me to prepare for my death. Obviously, I’ve no way out but to fight."

"Anything else that you know?"

"Nothing. I’ve never seen her before and she doesn’t seem like a human to me. Can she be another card, since she looks like one."

"No, she can’t be. You’ve already caught all the cards. Besides, the magic that she uses, it doesn’t seem like Clow’s magic. She must be a new enemy but what does she want? It seems to me that all she wants is to kill you."

"Yeah, seems like it. By the way, Li-Kun, thank you for the help. If I were left alone, I’m sure I would be killed by now."

Shaolang blushed again. "It’s not much help really but I fear that the lady just now has used full power and yet we are already exhausted."

"Yeah, talking about exhausted, it’s a little strange. After all this time, I’ve already mastered the cards and should be able to use a great deal of them before feeling exhausted. However, today, after using just a few cards, I feel like all my energy is drained away. It’s like returning to the time when I first changed the cards into the Star Cards. That’s strange, isn’t it?"

"Yes, Sakura, that’s strange. I think we should investigate that…." Shaolang begins coughing.

"Oh Li-Kun, are you alright? You better rest."

"Don’t worry, Sakura, I’m fine. I’m just fine!"
