CHAPTER I: Chance Meeting
Our meeting was by chance
But our love will be forever
In a neverending dance
Of hopeless endeavor
from the desk of C.L
"Ah Satoru is expecting me!" said Hikaru looking at her watch, "I'll have
to hurry or I'll be stuck with training the little kids today!" Hikaru placed her
pen behind her left ear and took off, heading west toward the Dojo.
She threw her binder over the tall gates of some college and nimbly jumped
over, the gates, after it. Hikaru landed in a crouch, picked up her binder and
took off at a run.
But after several steps she crashed into something large and hard. "Ooh,"
said Hikaru rubbing her head, "I don't remember a wall here."
"Are you alright?" asked a vaguely amused voice
She looked up to see a tall guy with silky raven black hair, beautiful
violet eyes...the color of Cephiro's skies...and a stern demeanor surrounding him.
"Yeah," replied Hikaru smiling up at him...he felt familiar somehow...she
felt like she knew him.
"What are these?" asked another voice. Hikaru looked to her right to see
her binder open and her drawings scattered on the floor.
"Oh no," said Hikaru, crawling to where her binder lay. "I'm going to be
really late now."
"I know this place," said the guy on front of her.
"Who are you?" asked Hikaru placing all her drawings in her binder and
waiting for the guy to give her back the one he held.
The guy who held her picture was a head shorter then the other, had white
blonde hair and beautiful amber eyes.
The guy looked up at her and whispered, "I know you."
"Huh?" asked Hikaru taking her drawing back and placing it in her binder.
"Eagle stop bothering the poor girl," said the other guy. "She's late, you
heard her."
"Eagle," said Hikaru. "Sounds familiar."
"What's your name?" asked Eagle looking down at her.
She looked up and him and said, "Sorry have to go...I'm really late now."
"Please just tell me your name," asked Eagle.
"Eagle," said the other guy. "She's already late as it is."
"I just want to know her name Lantis," replied Eagle staring into Hikaru's
beautiful crimson-ruby eyes. "I've never seen eyes this color before."
"I have to go," replied Hikaru running away from them.
"Wait!" shouted Eagle. She stopped abruptly and he shouted, "What's your
name?"
Hikaru shrugged and yelled, "Hikaru!" and ran until she finally reached
the dojo where Satoru waited at the steps to chastise her.
*****
"Hikaru has beautiful eyes," murmered Eagle as they walked down a path
near a lake.
"You barely know her Eagle, and besides she looks about eleven," snapped
Lantis.
"Those pictures she drew," said Eagle, "I know where they are."
"Eagle you're talking crazy," replied Lantis. "You've got to be thinking
about studies now."
"Cephiro," said Eagle, "A place where your will determines everything."
Lantis stared at Eagle and asked, "What did you say?"
"Cephiro," replied Eagle turning to him. "Lantis it seems so familiar."
"I..." said Lantis feeling a sense of longing in his heart...a bright
happy red haired girl in his arms... He shook his head and said, "I don't know
what you're saying."
"Lantis do you remember a place called Autozam?" asked Eagle turning to
him, his brilliant amber eyes on him.
"Autozam," whispered Lantis. "Yes."
"We have to find Hikaru," said Eagle after awhile. "She probably knows
what's happening."
"I agree," replied Lantis. "But the problem is we don't know her last
name, and we have no idea where the hell she lives."
Eagle took out a piece of paper and said, "I found this on the ground
after she left, it has a phone number on it."
Lantis looked at the piece of paper in shock and asked, "How do you know
it's her number?"
Eagle shrugged and said, "I dunno...I guess we'll just call and see."
"Eagle," said Lantis.
"Yes?" asked Eagle turning his bright smile on him.
"You're crazy," replied Lantis. "You just now found that out?" asked Eagle
teasingly. Lantis' only reply was silence and the two continued down on the
path that laid before them thinking about a certain red haired beauty...
*****
"This is the Shidou Dojo how may I help you?" asked Hikaru picking up the
phone.
"Hikaru?" asked a voice on the other end.
"Yes who is this?" asked Hikaru in a curious tone. "Umi? Fuu?"
"No this is Eagle," replied Eagle.
"How did you get this number?" asked Hikaru, shocked.
"You dropped it when you ran off," replied Eagle.
"What do you want Eagle?" asked Hikaru, her curiousity overriding her
better judgement.
"Those drawings," said Eagle. "Why did you draw them?"
"They remind me of something," replied Hikaru honestly. "Of another life."
"Cephiro?" asked Eagle hesitantly. Hikaru dropped the phone and stared at
the reciever while Eagle asked, "Hikaru are you there?!"
Hikaru picked up the phone and asked, "What did you say?"
"Cephiro," replied Eagle. "The place where your will determines
everything."
"When can you come here?" asked Hikaru suddenly hopeful...maybe Eagle knew
why she kept dreaming about a place called Cephiro.
"Right now," replied Eagle, "Lantis is also coming."
"Do you know where Meade Park is?"
"Yeah," replied Eagle.
"Meet me at the entrance," replied Hikaru. "Now."
"We're comin'," said Eagle before hanging up. Hikaru stared at the phone
staring at it then hung up.
"Elder brother I'm going out!" shouted Hikaru.
"Hikaru take Hikari out then," shouted Satoru back.
"Okay!" replied Hikaru grabbing the leash from it's hook at the side of
the door...
*****
"Where is she?" mused Eagle out loud as he looked at his watch.
Lantis, who was leaning against the gate, shrugged and said, "Maybe she
stood us up."
"She wouldn't do that," replied Eagle confidently.
"How do you know?" asked Lantis an eyebrow cocked.
"I just know," replied Eagle leaning against the opposite gate.
Suddenly Hikaru came flying over, with a huge wolf dog dragging her to the
park, wearing a loose red shirt which hung over one shoulder, a Yankees baseball
hat backwards, and short blue jeans with white sandals.
Hikaru stood with the dog anxiously pulling her and said sheepishly,
"Sorry, my elder brother wanted me to walk Hikari."
"What do you know about Cephiro?" asked Lantis still leaning against the
gate letting shadows overtake his form in a mysterious way.
Hikari suddenly pulled hard and Hikaru went flying again and going forward
almost falling. "Nyahh!" shouted Hikaru trying to maintain her balance. A hand
reached out and steadied her, she looked up to see Lantis looking down at her with
his beautiful violet eyes. She stared back up and said, "Thanks." Hikari growled
at the two men, protective of its mistress and suspicious of the two strangers.
"Hikari it's alright," said Hikaru giggling, "They're friends."
"You don't even know us," replied Lantis releasing her arm.
Hikaru shrugged and said, "If that's how you want it." Hikaru then
unclipped the leash saying, "Go on Hikari, come back in a few minutes 'kay?"
Hikari licked Hikaru's face and bounded off happily into the park.
"Are you sure that it's wise letting your pet loose?" asked Lantis, "He
could run away."
"He always comes back," replied Hikaru.
"Can we sit down and talk now?" asked Eagle his voice soft and persuading.
"I suppose," replied Hikaru sitting down, "What do you want to know?"
Eagle sat down and asked, "Who are you?"
"Eagle I don't think you two should sit down in the middle of the
entrance," said Lantis in a slightly annoyed tone.
Eagle stood up and said, with his hand extended, "Come on let's go find
somewhere else to sit." Hikaru took the hand and he brought her up so that her
body was against his, with him looking down at her with his liquid amber eyes.
"Stop flirting, Eagle, and let's get down to business," said Lantis,
shooting him a look.
Eagle let go and said, "Alright boss."
With that the two followed Lantis to a huge cherry tree. Hikaru sat down
against the trunk and said, "Ask what you want."
"How old are you?" asked Eagle sitting down next to her.
"Seventeen," replied Hikaru."
"Lantis thought you were eleven," said Eagle grinning.
Lantis stood in front of her and asked, ignoring the comment, "What is
Cephiro?"
"It's a place determined by the will," replied Hikaru. "Mokona the Creator
created that world and Earth including Chizeta, Fahren and Autozam."
"Autozam?" Eagle asked.
"Autozam is a country ruled by machines and mind power," replied Hikaru.
"I don't remember much it's just now returning back to me, Umi and Fuu remember
a lot of stuff too but they don't seem to want to share."
"Others know?" asked Lantis.
Hikaru sighed and said, "We three were once the Magic Knights of Cephiro,
summoned by Princess Emeraude, the current pillar...at that time we thought we
were suppose to save her..."
"What happened?" asked Eagle.
"It turns out she fell in love with some guy named Zagato," replied
Hikaru, "And since the pillar is suppose to love only Cephiro and think of only
Cephiro she had to be killed. 'Cause she only thought only about Zagato instead
and not Cephiro."
"Zagato?" whispered Lantis questioningly.
"Yeah some high priest guy who was suppose to help her with her prayers,"
replied Hikaru, "He had a brother... I forgot who he was."
"Another question," said Eagle softly. "What?" asked Hikaru curiously.
"Who are you?" asked Eagle looking straight into her fiery crimson ruby
eyes with his own liquid amber ones....
"I'm..." said Hikaru her her eyes blank. "I don't remember..."
"Who are you?" asked Hikaru looking at him, her blank look snapping away.
"I was hoping you knew," replied Eagle with a faint smile.
"I don't," replied Hikaru, "I'm only just now remembering...I thought I
was crazy but when Umi and Fuu remembered...well that kinda threw me into shock."
Hikaru then smiled, a smile of sunshine and rainbows, a smile of innocence and
joy, a smile that brought a pang to both men's hearts... "At least we know we're
not crazy."
"Yes," replied Eagle solemnly. "At least we're not crazy."
Suddenly a bark was heard and a grey blur hurtled to Hikaru. "Hikari get
off," said Hikaru, giggling as the dog licked her to death.
"Cute dog," said Lantis dryly.
"He is, isn't he," replied Hikaru not noticing his tone of voice.
"We have to meet again," said Eagle softly. "What about tomorrow at your
school?"
"Alright," said Hikaru doubtfully. "I guess."
"Where do you go to school anyway?" asked Lantis.
"It's right next to the college we met," replied Hikaru scratching Hikari
behind the ears.
"Alright we'll pick you up after school," replied Eagle grinning.
"After that we have to go to the dojo, Masaru and Kakeru get very worried
about me," replied Hikaru looking up at Lantis.
Lantis grunted softly and said, "Alright."
"Alright then," said Hikaru getting up, "I have to head back or else
Masaru and Kakeru might come looking for me."
"Good bye," said Eagle smiling at her sweetly. "Can't wait to see you
again."
Hikaru smiled back with her own trademark innocent smile and said, "Okay
bye." With that Hikari leapt forward and started to drag Hikaru off.
"Such an innocent girl," murmered Lantis.
"Yet so beautiful," replied Eagle looking at the retreating form of
Hikaru.
"You're like her," commented Lantis casually. "You both have the same
looks of naivete in your eyes."
"Now who's the crazy one," replied Eagle shooting him a grin.
"No that's still you," replied Lantis nonchalantly but Eagle noticed the
wicked gleam in his eyes and did the only thing he could do...he stuck his
tongue out at him and said,
"At least I'm better looking."
Lantis shrugged and started walking away, after a few moments Eagle
followed, the both of them thinking of the red haired beauty that had come
into their lives...
*****
Lantis and Eagle waited outside the school, casually leaning against a
huge tree. A bell rang and out burst a wave of kids all chattering and laughing.
Suddenly a bunch of girls came out huddled around someone talking and giggling for
no apparent reason.
"Are you going to walk home with us?" asked Kyra.
"No I'm waiting for someone," replied Hikaru as the girls parted to reveal
Hikaru in the middle.
"It seems that she's a very popular girl," murmered Lantis.
Kyra laughed and said, "I just hope it ain't Tatewaki, he has the biggest
crush on you and keeps calling you his pigtailed goddess."
Hikaru giggled and said, "Don't worry it's not him."
Eagle then stepped out and said, "Hikaru come on."
"Oh you're here already?" asked Hikaru. "Alright I'm coming."
"Hikaru, who is that?" asked Kyra, her eyes wide open. "And where did you
find him?"
"Huh?" asked Hikaru staring blankly at Kygara. "I dunno, in the park, I
forgot."
Eagle laughed softly and said, "Come on Hikaru we can't keep Lantis
waiting."
Suddenly a figure burst out of the bushes yelling, "Pigtailed goddess!! I
have come to rescue you from these strange men!" The guy was very good looking and
he held a sword in front of him in a threatening manner. "Get away from my pig-
tailed goddess!" snarled Kuno, "lest I decide to challenge you to a duel of
which you shall surely lose."
"Kuno!" shouted Hikaru hugging him, "What a surprise, how's Akane?"
"The beautiful wife of the atrocious Saotome is fine," replied Kuno.
"That's great," said Hikaru happily. "I can't wait to see her again."
"Pigtailed goddess I would suggest that you move away from me so I can
fight these men," said Kuno.
"She has a name," snapped Kyra.
"You don't want to hurt my friends do you Kuno?" asked Hikaru looking up
at him with her beautiful luminescent eyes.
"I must," replied Kuno stubbornly.
"Well in that case," said Hikaru, shrugging, "I'm very sorry."
"For what my goddess?" asked Kuno looking confused.
"For this," replied Hikaru grabbing the sword out of his hand and hitting
across the head with the flat of it, knocking him out cold.
Hikaru then slipped the sword back into the sheath on his belt and said,
"Catch ya later Kuno."
Kyra stared at the comatose Kuno and began to laugh shouting, "Ah! Can't
believe you did that again Hikaru!"
Eagle stared at Hikaru and asked, with smile on his face, "Are you
coming?"
"Yes," replied Hikaru giving him a smile.
"Pigtailed goddess?" asked Lantis as soon as they reached him.
"That's Kuno for you," replied Hikaru shrugging.
"Let's head for the dojo," said Eagle brightly. "Can't wait to meet your
brothers...
*****
"Satoru I'm home!" shouted Hikaru. "Where are you?"
Kakeru came running and shouted, "Why are you late? Is something the
matter? Are you ill? Do you need to go to the doctors?"
"I'm fine," replied Hikaru smiling, "I just had a little run in with Kuno."
"You didn't knock him out again did you?" asked Masaru appearing.
"As a matter of fact she did," said Eagle stepping out of the shadows.
"Who are you?" asked Kakeru looking suspicously at Eagle.
"This is Eagle," replied Hikaru, "And that's Lantis." "Hikaru how could
you not tell us that you have a boyfriend!" wailed Kakeru glomping onto his little
sister. "We're your brothers! Don't you trust us?"
"Uh Kakeru," said Hikaru, trying to pry him off of her. "He's not my
boyfriend, neither of them are."
"Oh," said Kakeru, opening his eyes and letting Hikaru up. "Never mind
then."
Masaru still eyed the two men suspicously and asked, "Why are they here?"
"They just came to talk," replied Hikaru truthfully. "I'm gonna go change
now." With that Hikaru went to her room and left Eagle and Lantis to stand there.
Eagle looked around and asked, "What kind of fighting technique do you
teach here?"
"Kendo," replied Satoru appearing out of nowhere. "We teach Kendo."
"Where are your parents?" asked Lantis. "Mother's out buying groceries and
Dad...well..." trailed off Masaru grinning.
"Well there's a story behind that," said Kakeru trying to stifle his
laugh.
"Years ago when Hikaru was a child she defeated our father in the art of
Kendo," replied Satoru, "therefore he went out into the world to try and get
stronger."
"In other words, dad was a weak-assed punk that got beaten up by a little
girl and was too ashamed to come back," translated Masaru coolly.
"Masaru," said Kakeru, "You can't say 'ass' in this house, Mother would
kill you."
Hikaru came bounding in wearing a loose white t-shirt and short blue
jeans once again with sneakers.
"Where's the phone? I wanna go call Fuu and Umi," said Hikaru bouncing in.
The three brothers' moods seemed to brighten as if Hikaru was their light...which
she was and started chattering and asking her questions. Hikaru then stopped all
the questions by saying, "I'm gonna go to the park with Eagle and Lantis, don't
wait up for me."
"You can't go," wailed Masaru. "They're guys, you don't know what they'll
do to you."
"Yeah!" agreed Kakeru. "You can't and we won't let you."
"I assure you that we are honorable men," said Lantis, "And we will not
harm Hikaru in any way."
"Yeah," said Eagle, "We're just going to the park to talk."
"Go," said Satoru calmly, "just be back before midnight."
"Okay," said Hikaru giving him a kiss and a hug. "Be back soon, Satoru-
niisama." She then hopped out of the dojo with Lantis and Eagle following
behind...
*****
"Your brothers are certainly very...protective of you," said Eagle, as
they walked towards the cherry tree, trying hard not to laugh.
"I don't mind," replied Hikaru wrinkling her face. "But when I want to go
out on a date they insist on the guy fighting and defeating them in combat."
Eagle chuckled and said, "It seems they care for you very much."
The three stopped walking as soon as they reached the cherry tree and sat
down around the trunk next to each other.
"Do you remember anything else?" asked Lantis after awhile.
"Umi just told me yesterday that I was the Pillar of Cephiro," murmured
Hikaru softly.
"The pillar?" murmered Eagle. "I know what that is."
"One person with a strong heart and will that rules Cephiro," said Lantis
quietly.
"Not allowed to love anyone or anything except Cephiro," whispered Hikaru.
A streak of pain flashed into their hearts at that thought and they all
wondered why.
"What else?" whispered Lantis.
"Death," said Eagle suddenly remembering. "The death of the pillar."
"I died?" asked Hikaru softly, not looking at him.
Eagle turned his face to the left and said, "Yes."
Lantis turned to look at Eagle and asked, "What became of us then?"
"I don't remember," replied Eagle softly.
"You two died too," said Hikaru softly.
"How?" asked Lantis.
"I dunno," replied Hikaru.
Suddenly images flashed through Eagle's mind and he said, rubbing his
temples, "Hikaru died for Lantis."
"What?" asked Lantis turning to Eagle.
"Yes something happened," replied Eagle opening his eyes.
"Why?" asked Hikaru staring ahead her usual innocent demeanor lost for the
moment.
"I dunno," replied Eagle. Suddenly a guy, tall and lanky with bangs
covering his eyes walked past with a lizard on his shoulder. He wore a simple grey
shirt and short khakis with a fishing hat kinda thing on his head.
Without thinking Hikaru called out, "Ascot come here!"
The guy turned and asked, "Do I know you?"
Hikaru not even knowing what she said, stood up and said, "Ascot come
here, don't you remember Presea telling you not to bring your pets into her
office?"
"Hikaru we're not in an office," said Eagle looking up at her worriedly.
Hikaru shook her head and asked, "What happened?"
"I don't know," replied Eagle.
Ascot came up to them and asked, "Did you say Presea?"
"Yes," replied Hikaru. "Why?"
"I...that name just sounded familiar," replied Ascot, hesitating.
Hikaru perked up and asked, "Do you know anything about Cephiro?"
Ascot stared and said, "Cephiro...dear Cephiro...sweet Umi."
"Umi?" asked Hikaru. "You know Umi?"
Ascot shook his head and asked, "I used to...but she died a long time ago
...I think."
"No she didn't," replied Hikaru, "she's one of my best friends."
Ascot stared at Hikaru and said, "I remembered Cephiro when I was six and
I remember a pillar..." Ascot stared at Hikaru then instantly fell to the ground,
bowing and said, "Princess Hikaru I didn't recognize you without your armor."
"You know me?" asked Hikaru softly.
Ascot looked up and said, "I remember you, you're Princess Hikaru, pillar of Cephiro."
"Cut it out with this princess stuff," said Hikaru holding out her hand.
"I'm Hikaru."
"Ascot," replied Ascot taking her small hand. He hesitated then asked,
"Umi... She's alive?"
"Of course," replied Hikaru, "And kicking."
"Who are you?" asked Eagle from the tree. "And how do you know about
Cephiro?"
"I was Chief Bal," replied Ascot sitting down, "And Umi was my wife."
"Wife!?" asked Hikaru in surprise. "I wonder what Umi-chan's gonna say
about this."
"Never mind that, tell us what you know about Cephiro," said Lantis.
Ascot suddenly bowed again and said, "Kailu Lantis, brother of Zagato."
"It seems that you two were very popular people in Cephiro," said Eagle
grinning.
Ascot almost fainted at the sight of Eagle and said, bowing once again,
"Eagle Vison, crown prince of Autozam and Commander of the NSX."
"Hey, cool. I'm a prince," said Eagle grinning.
"Eagle," said Lantis giving him a look before turning back to Ascot.
"All I remember is up to when Hikaru became the pillar," replied Ascot,
"nothing else."
"That's great," sighed Lantis. "Back where we started."
"No it's not back where we started," said Eagle smiling. "We have actually
gone forward in this mystery that binds us together."
Hikaru looked at Ascot thoughtfully then asked quietly, "Do you want to see Umi?"
"Oh god yes," whispered Ascot. "I dream about her every single day, I have
dreamt about her since I was six. Everything about her was elegant and graceful...
like water...soft rippling hair like waves of the sea, eyes the color of the ocean
depths."
"You'd make a good poet," commented Eagle.
Ascot looked at Hikaru and said, "I want to see her."
"Great," said Hikaru looking at her watch. "I'm gonna meet her and Fuu in
twenty minutes at the Sakura Cafe...I'll bring you along."
"Hey what about us?" asked Eagle indignantly.
"Oh I was gonna ask you to come too," said Hikaru sheepishly. Eagle
laughed and said, "That's alright as long as you were going to bring us."
"I'm a little bit curious to see these friends of yours too," commented
Lantis as he stood up and shook pieces of grass off his pants.
"Alright then, let's go right now," said Hikaru. "It'll just take 'bout
fifteen minutes to get there...we'll have five minutes to settle down." Hikaru
then ran off leaving the three guys behind, seconds later she came back and said,
"Well don't just stand there come on!"
The three guys looked at each other, shrugged and ran after Hikaru all the
while laughing...
