"Umi-chan," breathed Ascot standing up. Umi stared and asked, "Do I know you?" "It's me Ascot," replied Ascot. "Don't you remember me?" Umi's face was a myriad of emotions, surprise, hope, wonder and most of all love. "It can't be," whispered Umi, "is it?" Ascot nodded shyly and said, "Yes, it's me." Umi gave a cry of joy and launched herself into his arms. "Miss Umi would you mind explaining?" asked Fuu curiously. Umi turned around and said with a huge smile on her face, "Fuu this is Ascot...my husband." Fuu stared and said, "Your..husband?" "Yes," replied Ascot smiling, "Umi was...is my wife." "I missed you so," said Umi hugging him once again, "I always knew I was waiting for someone..." "Well at least we know we're not crazy," Eagle said echoing Hikaru's earlier words. Lantis just looked away and said nothing...he seemed to be trouble. "Is something wrong..." Fuu paused, not knowing the guy's name. "That's Lantis," replied Hikaru. "And this is Eagle." At those words Fuu and Umi froze and stared at the three with pale faces. "What's wrong?" asked Hikaru worriedly. "Nothing, Ms. Hikaru," replied Fuu with a flustered smile. "Don't worry it's nothing," replied Umi with a fake smile. Lantis eyed Fuu and Umi and said in a velvety quiet voice, "You know something that you're not telling us." "Yes I think Lantis is right," said Eagle with his eyes narrowed. "What do you know." Fuu sighed and said, "I don't think we should tell you..." "Tell us," said Lantis dangerously. "I'm in no mood for this." "Alright already," said Umi sighing, "don't have to be so grouchy." "Look who's talking," replied Lantis glaring at her. Umi stuck her tongue out and said, "Well if you're going to be like that I don't think I'll tell you." "Please Umi?" asked Hikaru softly. Umi looked at Hikaru and sighed saying, "You know, Hikaru, I could never resist you when you had that look on your face." "So you'll tell us?" asked Hikaru smiling. "Of course I'll tell you," snapped Umi irritably. "It was Hikaru's seventeenth birthday," said Fuu softly, "Everything seemed to be going so well.... *The past* "Happy birthday my love," said Eagle kissing her forehead gently. Hikaru giggled and gently pressed her lips to his and kissed him. After a few minutes Hikaru pulled away and shouted, "Lantis!" Lantis, closing the door behind him, nodded, his face softening as he watched the petite beauty run to him. He caught her and she kissed him happily. Finally she pulled away and shouted, "It's my birthday!!" She then jumped from Lantis' arms and ran into the castle shouting, "It's my birthday!!!" "Seventeen years old and she still acts like a child," murmered Lantis. "That's what I love about her," replied Eagle smiling at him. "As do I," replied Lantis. Hikaru came running back and jumped into Eagle's arms whispering as if it were a secret between the three of them, "It's my birthday." "Yes we know," replied Lantis gently touching her cheek. Hikaru kissed his fingers and said, "Just thought I should remind you." "Why don't you go wear that dress Presea made you," suggested Eagle. "We would like to see you in it." "Alright," replied Hikaru. "But I'll have to ask you guys to help me get into it...I can't tie the strings." "SURE!" agreed Eagle enthusiastically. ***** Hikaru picked up the dress laid out on her bed and said, "Here it is." "Well then Hikaru, get undressed and we'll help you in it," said Eagle grinning. "Ouch!" yelped Eagle as Lantis jabbed him in the ribs with his elbow. "Ahem, we'll wait outside while you put the dress behind the screen. Then you come out and we'll help you tie it up." "Alright," replied Hikaru, kissing his nose before departing. "The dress will look very pretty on her," murmered Lantis to Eagle. Eagle just watched the shadow undress and slip on the dress with fascination. "Close your mouth Eagle...you'll get a chance after Hikaru's 'wedding'." Eagle noticed a bouquet of flowers and said, "Well can't have our princess go without a crown." "What do you mean?" asked Lantis watching as Eagle twined the roses together until it formed a crown of red roses. "I'm ready," said Hikaru in a sing-song voice. She walked out and asked, "Do I look good in it." Eagle looked up and immediately dropped the crown of roses. "Eagle?" asked Hikaru inquisitively. "Come here Hikaru," said Lantis sitting down at the edge of her bed. Hikaru came over to him and he said, "Turn around." She obediently did what she told him to and he began to tie the back of the pink corset like part of her dress. "Not so tight Lantis," said Hikaru squirming impatiently. Lantis tied the strings and said, "I'm done." Hikaru then twirled away from making the skirt billow out in a beautiful creamy pink sight. The dress Hikaru wore was very simple but Hikaru made it beautiful. Eagle picked up the crown of roses and said, "A princess does need a crown." "It's beautiful," breathed Hikaru staring at it with such awe it embarrased him. Eagle gently placed the crown in her hair,blushing, and said, "There." Hikaru kissed his cheek and said, "Thank you." "Let's head to the throne room, that's where the celebration of your birthday is being held," said Lantis softly as he lightly brushed away a tendril of wispy red hair and curled it back over her ear. "Alright, Lantis," replied Hikaru happily bouncing up and down. "I can't wait." "Then let's go," said Eagle lifted her up by the waist and setting her on his right shoulder. Hikaru giggled and said, "Eagle put me down." "Her highness should arrive in style," replied Eagle innocently. "After all you are the pillar." "Alright then, forward on!" shouted Hikaru laughing gaily out loud... ***** "Hikaru you look beautiful," said Caldina grinning, "You look just like a lady." "No she looks like a princess," said Ferio hugging Hikaru to him in a brotherly way. Suddenly a bright light appeared and a voice said, "I have come to a decision." "Great and I haven't even opened my presents yet," muttered Hikaru. "Shhh," said Lantis softly, "He is the one who will decide your future, so I suggest you better listen to him." "What decision have you reached?" asked Clef coming forward. "I have decreed that the Pillar not be allowed to think of anything else but Cephiro," replied the Creator. "And only the Pillar will control Cephiro." "No!" shouted Hikaru. "Or I simply won't be the pillar." Everyone became quiet but Hikaru continued on and shouted, "If I can't be with my friends then I refuse to stay here any longer!" shouted Hikaru. "Hikaru," said Eagle taking her in his arms, "It's his decision we must abide by it." "But--" said Hikaru but Eagle interrupted by saying, "We'll have another chance love, I know we will." "Also I have decreed that the two men courting the pillar will be destroyed," said the voice. "You can't do that, oh please don't," gasped Hikaru. "You simply can't, I'd die." "This is very unreasonable," said Clef angrily. "You deny the girl her happiness." "Zagato and Emeraude," replied the Creator, "were the ones who made me realize that I cannot let these two live." "Mokona I thought we were friends," whispered Hikaru. "Why do this to me now? On my birthday of all days." "I am sorry," replied the voice and everyone could hear the regret and guilt the creator's voice. A sudden beam of light appeared and headed lightning fast toward Lantis faster then even Lantis could see. But Hikaru, who was the pillar, could and threw herself in front of Lantis. The light hit her and she was thrown against the ground hard enough to leave an imprint in the ground. "Hikaru!" shouted Umi and Fuu running over to her. "I'm alright," replied Hikaru a line of blood slowly going down the side of her mouth. "It doesn't hurt." "No," whispered Eagle. "No!" He ran over to Hikaru and pushed Umi and Fuu away caring only for the being that was his love. Lantis stared in shock at Hikaru then slowly made his way over to her his eyes full of pain, anger and grief. "Hey, hey," said Eagle softly, smiling through his tears. "It's your birthday, Hikaru, it's your day." "It's alright Eagle, it doesn't hurt," replied Hikaru, smiling up at him dreamily, the rise and fall of her chest moving slower and slower. Hikaru looked up at both of them dreamily and said, "Goodbye...I love you both." Then her chest stilled and sighed as the flame that was her life dwindled away and vanished before their very eyes. Lantis closed his eyes and seemed to almost collapse within himself...after a few seconds he got up and slowly headed out of the room with his pain and grief clearly showing. Eagle just held Hikaru to him weeping into her fiery red hair. He didn't seem to care that people were around him watching him cry, he just didn't seem to care at all... ***** "And that's what happened," replied Umi quietly. "She died for both of you," said Fuu quietly. Hikaru stared at Umi and Fuu with wide eyes and said nothing. Eagle stared blankly at nothing his face pale and his hands slightly trembling. Lantis just stared at Hikaru with a look in his eyes. Hikaru then smiled and said, "At least we're alive again." "The thing is," said Ascot softly, "we might have to return to Cephiro, it's not by chance that we were all reborn with the same names and same looks as before in our past life...not to mention the fact that we're remembering all this stuff." "Then Hikaru still might not be able to be with them," said Umi thoughtfully. "I don't even know them!" shouted Hikaru startling everybody. "And I don't plan on going to Cephiro, I like my life just fine here!" With that she ran out of the cafe with tears in her eyes. "I'll go after her," said Eagle snapping out of his thoughts and following after Hikaru. "Lantis-san aren't you going to go?" asked Fuu softly. "She's right," replied Lantis coldly. "We don't even know each other." "YOU BAKA!!" shouted Umi causing everyone to stare at the group. "YOU GO AFTER HER RIGHT NOW CAUSE YOU KNOW YOU LOVE HER!!!!! YOU FREAKING BASTARD!!!!!" Lantis merely looked at her...but then after a few seconds he sighed and said, "Alright...I'll go." He then stood up and walked out of the cafe with the group, and half the cafe, staring after him... ***** "Ah shit!" muttered Eagle as it began to rain. "Just perfect." He then caught sight of her...she was standing several feet away from him, her hair loose and getting wetter by the second, just standing there and staring blankly at something. He walked up to her and asked, "Are you alright?" "There," said Hikaru pointing, to the bus stop across from them, through the rain. "What?" asked Eagle confused. "First date," replied Lantis appearing out of nowhere holding a red ribbon in his hands. "Oh yeah," said Eagle smiling sheepishly. "Now I remember." Hikaru then began to walk toward the bus stop...she didn't even seem to notice them. "Hikaru?" asked Eagle following her with Lantis behind. Hikaru turned to face them both as soon as they were out of the rain and said, "I don't know why...I don't even know you...but I seem to love you guys." Eagle smiled and said, "As do we." "Speak for yourself," replied Lantis. Lantis then looked at Hikaru and said, "Just kidding." Hikaru smiled at them, her usual smile of sunshine and rainbows, and said, "I don't want to lose you...again." "Neither do we," replied Lantis coming forward and embracing her gently in his arms. "We never even got a chance to get married," murmured Eagle softly. At that Hikaru began to cry, soft quiet sobs that racked her small frame... Lantis held her to him tighter and said, "It's going to be alright." Hikaru looked up at him and asked, "Are we going back?" "I hope not," replied Eagle. Lantis gently let her go and said, "Let's go back to the cafe...your friends are bound to be worried. "Alright," said Hikaru softly agreeing. Eagle then spun her into his arms and kissed her. When he finally let her go she had a dreamy look on her face and asked, "What was that for?" "I dunno," replied Eagle shrugging. "Do I need a reason?" "It was so sweet," replied Hikaru, giggling. Hikaru then spun around brang down Lantis' head and kissed him joyously. Hikaru then let him go laughing joyously, her laughter a melody of happiness spiraling higher and higher...a neverending sound of bliss. Lantis was startled but his shock quickly turned into a faint smile. "I've never seen you smile Lantis...not even a little," murmured Eagle softly as he looked at him. "I'm glad she's back in our lives..." "As am I," replied Lantis softly. Hikaru turned to them both and asked, "Aren't we going to go back to the cafe?" "Didn't I just say to do that?" asked Lantis with a light in his eyes. Hikaru giggled and said, "Of course not silly, I used different words." "Why you," said Lantis reaching for her playfully, Hikaru darted away playfully, teasingly as she smiled at him. Eagle stared at Lantis in amazement...he had never seen Lantis like this ... He then joined in the fun and the two chased Hikaru back to the cafe...their happiness and love for each other evident...they were back together again and that's all that mattered.... ***** "When are they going to be back?" asked Umi as she sipped her tea with Ascot sitting next to her, watching her adoringly. "I do not know," replied Fuu shrugging her shoulders, making her hair bounce cheerfully. "May I take your order?" asked a voice. Umi nodded and said, without looking at the waiter, "I'd like another cup of tea and put more cream in it this time." "Sure miss," replied the voice. Fuu turned and asked, "What do you recommen--" she stared at the youth who stood before her. He had green hair that was slightly messed up, beautiful golden brown eyes, a scar over the bridge of his nose and on the left side of his cheek, tan skin and arrogant posture...considering he wore an apron with cappuccinos all over it and a hat vaguely resembling a cup of coffee. "Ferio is that you?" asked Ascot in surprise. "That's my name, don't wear it out," replied Ferio grinning. "But who the hell are you?" "I'm Ascot..don't you remember me?" asked Ascot curiously. "Sorry pal, never seen you before in my life," replied Ferio shrugging. "Ferio?" asked Fuu in a soft lilting voice. "Is it you?" Ferio looked at Fuu and said, "Sorry girl, never seen yo--" He then squinted, shook his head and asked, "Have I met you before?" "I'm Fuu, don't you remember me?" asked Fuu smiling faintly at him. "Fuu...?" asked Ferio staring at Fuu. "It sounds so familiar...I just can't put my finger on it..." "Cephiro," said Umi softly. "Princess Emeraude." At those words Ferio's face changed...changed into that face of a prince's...a face...an expression...his face was a face how knew how to command armies, who knew how when to attack and when to retreat...and also his was a face of a man in love... He knelt to the ground and said, "Fuu...how could I have forgotten." Hikaru giggled and said, "I wish I could've seen that!" "Me too," agreed Eagle enthusiastically. Lantis just sat down and asked, "Who's the green haired kid?" "Hey, I'm nineteen," said Ferio indignantly. "He's Ferio," said Ascot quietly. "Prince Ferio, brother to Princess Emeraude the pillar before Hikaru." "Hikaru," said Ferio, staring at Hikaru. He then surprised everyone by grabbing her and twirling her around saying, "Glad to see you!!!!" Hikaru laughed and said as he put her down, "It's good to see you too." He ruffled her her hair endearingly in a brotherly way and said, "I knew someone was missing from the group." "Lantis, Eagle!" shouted Ferio his eyes widening. "I can't believe it!!! We're all here!!! Next thing we know Clef's gonna appear and Umi's gonna start cracking on him about his height!!!" "I am not!" denied Umi. Everyone looked at her and she said in a sulky voice. "Maybe I would...so what!!! Stop looking at me!!!" "You think we have to go back?" asked Ferio quietly. "I don't want to," replied Hikaru defiantly, " I don't care about being the pillar, I just...I just want to be with Lantis and Eagle." "As we all do," replied Ascot quietly. Everyone looked at him and he almost fell off of his chair shouting, "NOT IN THAT WAY!! I MEANT THAT WE ALL WANT TO STAY WITH THE PEOPLE WE LOVE INSTEAD OF GOING BACK TO CEPHIRO!" "Chill out kid," said Ferio with a sweatdrop forming above his head. Umi promptly grabbed Ascot and gave him a deep and passionate kiss... everyone turned to look away from the sight...seeing as it was a very "Umi moment." At last Umi let go and said, "That'll put him out of it for awhile." They all looked at Ascot to see him staring off into space with a dreamy expression on his face and a lizard around his neck looking as clueless as ever. "But if we are summoned back to Cephiro?" asked Eagle after awhile. "I think..." said Fuu, "that we are suppose to go back to it...no matter what." "How are we gonna get there?" asked Lantis quietly. "TOKYO TOWER!" shouted the three Magic knights simultaneously. "Of course," said Ferio with a serious look on his face, "But the thing is...do we want to go back?" "It is not a question of if we want to go back," said Lantis in his cold quiet voice. "It is our duty to go back, if not for ourselves then for Cephiro." "Yes...Cephiro must be in bad shape by now," said Ferio, "It hasn't had its pillar for a long time. It probably hasn't collapsed because Hik--all of us were reborn again." "Yeah I guess that's true," said Umi thoughtfully. "But the thing is... when are we going to be called back?" asked Umi. Suddenly a flash of light appeared and blinded them all by it's brightness.
