Here's something I cooked up in an hour. One-shots are pretty rare
for me. This is actually the second time I posted a one-shot fic.

The Day I Lost Someone I Never Had
by Nikholas 'elf' Toledo
===================================
I welcome the sting of your salty tears as they fall upon my
wounds. I have become quite fascinated with the color of my
blood. Can't help it, really, since I seem to be bathing in it.
"Don't let it end like this. Please, I beg you."
I'm tired. So tired. But you wont let me go. And fool that I am,
I will try to fight it, simply because you ask me to.
"Hi-Hikaru..." I could barely recognize the voice as my own. So
hoarse it was, from exhaustion and pain.
You embrace me then, clutching onto my hand for dear life. As if
the very act will keep my soul from leaving my battered body.
Stubbornly refusing to accept the inevitability of my death.
"Eagle, don't die. You can't die!"
Everything will probably come to an end if I let go of your
hand. If I were given a chance to bargain with Death I would've
pushed for eternity with you. But that's not going to happen
now, is it?
"Lantis, promise me that she will never cry again. It pains me
to see her tears."
Tears. Even though I try to wipe them away, I can't seem to find
a way to keep them from falling.
Maybe he will. He loves you, too, you know?
Though how much, I really can't say.
I have always been the rebel, wanting to defy fate and break
free of the role it wrote out for me.
Less of a brother. More than a friend.
Me being your lover was never in the script.
I should wish for you to find happiness with him, but I can't.
I guess I'm selfish that way. Some friend I turned out to be.
If you knew about my selfishness, would you have felt betrayed?
"Good-bye, Hikaru."
I guess it's better this way.
Someday you'll understand the true meaning of this fate I have
chosen. That you have chosen. That we have all chosen.
"Thank-you."
I wish I could say that I love you.
That my love transcends the sky and sea.
Beyond the boundaries of reality and dreams.
That I will find you in the next life.
That I will never lose you ever again.
But how can I? You were never mine.
