'Kay, this is one small fic, and concludes the cleaning of the fanfics on my
hard drive. Only thing left now is a few half-baked ideas that are flopping
around like beached fish. ~_~; Um, I attempted to make part of this serious,
and I have the feeling it didn't quite come off right, so C&C, _please_. ^^;;
Next fanfic will be CCD, and will be a Choose-your-own-adventure type
thingie. Probably will be a while before I finish. But does anyone want to
help me proofread when it's done? I need someone to make sure it makes sense
and that all the links work (it'll be in html format up at my site since
posting it in one piece is impossible) and C&C it and stuff. ^^;;;; I'd
appreciate it.
Distance

"Fuuuuu...."
Fuu set her pencil down to rest on the calculus textbook which lay open
on the kitchen table in front of her, amid various scraps of paper and notes
scattered about the surrounding area. Recognizing that all too sweet voice,
she glanced over toward the stairway to the right. It confirmed her guess as
her sister came down the stairs with a gait that made her want to say she was
"frolicking." She did indeed look the part of a maiden from a fairy tale,
with half her long hair cutely braided into a wreath around her head, the
other half left to drape about her back and shoulders. She was dressed in a
casual outfit, though on her it somehow looked better than anything fancy or
expensive; the cotton top and skirt suited the radiant summer day well
anyway. Her eyes sparkled, almost to where Fuu could detect a slightly
devilish glow to them, even in such an angelic creature like her
sister...heh.
Kuu swung her body around while her hand grasped one end of the railing
as she hit the main floor, then letting go, she left her arms stretched out
and made a pirouette to where her younger sister was studying. "Oh,
Fuuuuu...would you be so kind...." Her sister leaned over her shoulder and
looked at her upside down from her spot behind Fuu's chair. "As to help me
with the dishes?"
Fuu sweatdropped at the smile her sister was giving her. She could tell
that Kuu was trying very hard to make it look cute, but when her sister
grinned that much, it looked a little scary. Her eye teeth were sticking out,
and they rather reminded her of short stubby fangs.
Actually, it reminded her of the smile that Umi-san used a lot, and that
was enough to be scary in itself.
"I take it you're going somewhere, oneesan?"
Her sister put her fingers together and squirmed, at first straightening
up onto her toes, then setting herself down flat on her feet. Repeatedly.
"Well, I *guess* you could say that...."
Kuu really was the antsy girl today, Fuu mused, sizing up her sister.
Well, a little teasing couldn't hurt. Fuu gave her sister a mischevious
smile. "And with whom would you be going somewhere with?"
Her sister's blush rather took Fuu aback. A boyfriend? Kuu? Hm.... She
prodded her sister, poking her lightly in the arm. "And do mom and dad know
about this?"
Her sister squirmed some more. "Ee to...well, kinda...see...I'm supposed
to do the dishes before I go anywhere...."
Fuu hid her smile. So that was it. She supposed she *could* go easy on
her sister...yet, teasing was so much fun, and heaven knew that she was the
target of it most of the time. A little fun couldn't hurt, could it?
"Well...."
At her sister's explosive barrage of "pleeeease?" "c'mon, c'mon!" tugging
and everything else under the sun that could be classified as begging, she
threw up her hands. "Alright! I'll do it! Just go ahead, oneesan...." Well,
she lost that one quick. Not that she really minded - it was the sort of
thing she predicted. "Be sure to enjoy yourself, oneesan, and don't get
obsessive...." She giggled, as Kuu stuck her tongue out at her wink.
"Remember to tell me the details afterwards!" she told her sister's
retreating form, as Kuu slipped out the door.
Getting up and slipping the dishes into their proper shelves, she sighed
as she thought about her own potential of having a boyfriend. She supposed
she could say that she had had one once...but it wasn't as if that counted in
real life.
Real life...that was a very bad term for Tokyo. Admittedly, it *was*
real, but so was the time she had spent in Cefiro, almost more so than her
"real life". All the events, all the emotions she had felt there...they were
so much greater than the ones she felt here at home, in the absolute monotony
of her daily schedule. Go to school, eat lunch, chit chat with classmates, go
home and study more.... Here, she hadn't ever had something to put her every
at stake for, save her family and friends, but those, she had always assumed
that she would have....
But still, time made the memories blur together so...and she hadn't been
back since...since the abolishment of a pillar system.... She had had a
boyfriend once, but he wasn't in this side of her life. And she wasn't
certain that she would ever see that side again...ever see *him* again....
She sighed, leaning against the counter. Who was there to possibly take
an interest in, anyway? The only time that she would talk to a boy, the only
time that a boy would talk to *her*, was when they were admiring her brains,
or wanted an answer.... And while there were a few boys who accepted her,
they really didn't understand her. They didn't try to, and there was no way
they could understand even if they did, without her sounding like a quack
talking about Cefiro.
Ferio was the closest thing she had ever had....
Even if she did find another man in this half of her life, would she
really want to take the opportunity? Would she really want to give Ferio up,
to desert him in favor of another with the excuse that she might never see
him again? Would she really want to give her love to someone else?
And what of Ferio? Would he think her foolish for not moving on with her
life? Had he already gone on with his? Or did he still care, did he still
wait for her to come back, like she waited to someday meet him?
She shut her eyes. She didn't think that she could let go. He had stolen
her heart, and he would forever fill that space inside her.... She brought an
oval, silent, red-shaped jewel out of her pocket, holding it tight against
her chest. Somehow, despite the distance, it told her she remained in his,
too.
