Chapter 14: Armageddonic Showdown
Taishakuten stood facing the people in the hall with his three
Shiten-ous, Bishamonten, Zouchouten, and Koumokuten. Other people of
importance was also present. Shashi stood beside Tenou, waiting.
"Taishakuten, the Yasha-ou and the others have been sighted
nearby.", said Bishamonten.
"Let him come.", said Taishakuten.
Bishamonten nodded. He gazed up to meet Kisshouten's gaze, but then
he looked away. Kisshouten looked worried.
"Eastern Jikokuten, why don't you come out here and present
yourself.", said Taishakuten.
Koumokuten and Zouchouten looked about. Then there was a shadow
behind Taishakuten. A figure appeared. It was Kendappa-ou. She was
dressed in black, with a cap and head gear, she held her long sword. The
shocked surprise could be heard throughout the hall. Zouchouten couldn't
believe it, so did Koumokuten.
"We attack when they're all too busy in the hall.", said Karura-ou.
"But, how do we know who the sixth star is?", Sohma asked.
"Hah, let 'em come!", said Ryu-ou.
"Ashura, pay close attention to Shurato's vibrations.", said Yasha-ou.
Ashura nodded. Hiyana looked at Susan.
"You know what's going to happen?", she asked.
Susan shook her head.
"I'm not so sure... some events have not taken place...", said Susan.
"You think we'll get into trouble for all this mess?", Hiyana asked,
sighing.
"...What do you think? It's not like we had a choice in coming
here...", said Susan.
Yasha-ou turned to Susan.
"Susan, you and Hiyana, I don't want you two to come with us.", he said.
Susan and Hiyana glared at him.
"We are coming whether you like it or not.", said Hiyana.
"No! You don't know what you're talking about.", said Yasha-ou.
"Yasha-ou, I'm coming.", said Susan.
Yasha-ou ran his hand down her hair, his eyes seem to fill with a
certain sadness. Susan glared at him, uncertain of what she felt.
"I can fight too... You have to believe in me.", she said.
Yasha-ou stared at her hard, then he sighed.
"Alright, let's go.", he said.
Kendappa-ou landed elegantly onto the beam. Zouchouten's attack
wasn't nearly as bad, of course, she didn't want to kill him or anything.
Tenou's shock to her identity was truly a sight.
"That's enough.", said Taishakuten, then he turned and left the hall.
Kendappa-ou leaped down from the beam and Tenou ran halfway to her.
"Kendappa-ou... you're... the Eastern Jikokuten...", he whispered.
"Surprise surprise.", said Kendappa-ou.
"Kendappa-ou...", Tenou sighed.
Suddenly there was a loud blast as the rear wall crumbled. Seven
figures appeared.
"Here they come...", said Koumokuten.
"It's Ashura! That cursed child!", Shashi was panicking.
"Mother, calm down!", Tenou tried to comfort her.
The maidservants and Tenou led Shashi to her room.
The vibrations from Shurato was almost deafening as the sixth star
appeared in the blade. Kendappa-ou. As the Yasha-ou and the others came
into contact with the four Shiten-ous, someting clicked inside each of the
six stars' minds. Sohma had been shocked it was Kendappa-ou, the last star.
She didn't want it to be so.
"Sohma...", said Kendappa-ou.
"Stop! Keep that child away from me! She'll kill me!", Shashi cried.
"Mother, stop! You need some rest.", said Tenou.
He comforted her and Shashi laid down on her bed, still afraid.
Yasha stood, facing Bishamonten. He wasn't going to lose to
Taishakuten's pet. Karura-ou sent Garuda at Zouchouten. Zouchouten blocked
the attack, though it almost knocked him over. Yasha-ou looked around,
where was Susan? Hiyana and Ryu-ou were dealing with Koumokuten, but...
Ashura and Susan had disappeared... Yasha-ou blocked just as Bishamonten
struck at him.
The doors bursted open and two figures appeared. Tenou narrowed his
eyes to get a better look.
"Shashi... what a pitiful sight...", said a voice.
Shashi looked up, she recognized that voice.
"Who are you?!", she asked loudly.
"Someone... you should know.", the voice answered.
The two figures stepped forward. Shashi's eyes almost popped from
her head. 'Ashura!! And that girl!' she thought. Tenou looked confused,
but as he stared at Ashura, it seemed as though he knew him.
"Why did you want to kill me... mother?", Ashura asked, holding onto
Susan's hand.
"You were a cursed child!", she retorted.
"Ashura is not a cursed child!!!", Susan's voice boomed.
Shashi's anger rose. She stood up.
"Cursed child of Ashura-ou... You were always in the way...", Shashi
hissed.
Susan swore under her breath.
"Damn, you are a real bitch, Shashi. All you can think about is
power...", Susan said.
Ashura felt something tingly inside... something strange, taking
over. Ashura's grip tightened on Susan's. Susan looked down at Ashura.
"Dark Ashura...", Susan whispered.
Ashura's eyes closed for a second and opened with a new expression.
An expression, of evil. Susan let go of Ashura's grip and stood away,
leaning against the wall with one shoulder, as if she was enjoying this.
'Damn, did Dark Ashura have to come out at a time like this? I wanted to
kill Shashi... Oh, well.' Susan though ridiculously. She sighed.
"Ashura and Susan's gone!", said Yasha-ou.
"They must've went someplace else!", said Karura-ou.
"Damn, they must've went after Shashi!", said Yasha-ou.
"Pay attention Yasha-ou.", said Bishamonten as they clashed swords.
Sohma hit the ground, Kendappa-ou was strong. Sohma got up shakily.
"Kendappa-ou... don't do this...", Sohma said weakly.
"I served Taishakuten because he was strong, I detest weak people.",
Kendappa-ou said.
Sohma blocked Kendappa-ou's sword with her moonrangs just in time.
Shashi's mouth hung open as Ashura thrust Shurato into her chest,
blood splattering all over.
"A...shu...ra...", Shashi called out.
Tenou was knocked out when Ashura had struck him against the wall.
Susan wasn't the least surprised. Then Shashi saw the jewel on one side of
Shurato. 'Kara!' she thought. Ashura smiled. Then Ashura tilted the sword
up so Shashi was forced to raise her head.
"The seal... is mine.", said Ashura.
Then Ashura grabbed the jewel embedded on Shashi's forehead and
ripped it out forcefully. Shashi screamed in pain as Ashura pulled Shurato
out of her chest and let her dying body drop to the floor. Blood gushed
from her forehead and chest as she breathed her last breath. Ashura took
the jewel and put it in it's place on Shurato's hilt. The eyes of the sword
opened and Ashura's eye's closed as strange vines curled about her, covering
Ashura entirely. Susan looked at it strangely. 'Looks like a scene from
Aliens...' she thought. Susan sighed and left the room.
"Man, what a mess...", Susan sighed as she stepped down to the
lowest level in Zenmijou.
The castle shook as the war fought on. Susan saw Kujaku standing in
the middle of the Ashura Castle's gateway.
"Oi, Kujaku... it's you.", said Susan.
Kujaku turned to her.
"Susan... so you haven't awakened yet.", he said.
Susan paused.
"What're you talking about?", Susan asked, approaching Kujaku.
"Don't you remember what Kuyou had foretold you?", Kujaku asked slyly.
"Ah, so you know about that too... yes, of course you do, you are a
stargazer.", said Susan, looking around.
"Now you know... when you awake, hell will break loose...", said Kujaku.
"Yes, and Ashura is the beacon in which will lead me to
purification...", Susan added.
"I wonder, which Ashura that is...", said Kujaku, a smile playing on
his lips.
A rumble shook throughout the castle. Susan looked about,
unimpressed. Then Taishakuten strolled on in. Susan turned.
"Ah, if it isn't Susan...", said Taishakuten.
"Taishakuten.", said Susan.
"Hell breaks loose when evil awakens, peace restored when the beacon
leads...", Kujaku recited Kuyou's words.
"Susan, our promise...", said Taishakuten.
"Don't sweat it...", said Susan as she disappeared into the shadows.
"Taishakuten...", said Kujaku.
Hiyana backflipped from Koumokuten's attack. 'Amazing! They are
quite good...' she thought. Hiyana leaped to the side.
"Flare Arrow!", she shouted.
Out of Hiyana's hands appeared an image of a bow, a flash appeared,
representing an arrow. She shot it out at Koumokuten. He dodged as the
arrow hit the ground next to him.
"You missed.", he said.
"Bleah!", said Hiyana as the arrow exploded.
Koumokuten was caught off guard. The explosion sent him tumbling.
Ryu-ou did a thumbs up sign to Hiyana.
'Bishamonten! Yasha-ou!' Kisshouten thought. They were fighting
brutally, she didn't know who'd win. Then Susan appeared. Sitting casually
on the railing.
"...Susan...", said Kisshouten.
"Kisshouten...Bishamonten's going to die.", said Susan, slowly
turning to look at Kisshouten.
Taishakuten appeared up at the highest point of the crumbling
castle. Karura-ou turned her attention away from Zouchouten.
"Karura-ou! He'll kill you!", Zouchouten scolded.
"He killed my sister!", she cried, gathering power.
A white flame consumed Karura-ou and she leaped up to meet Taishakuten.
"KARURA HITENSHOU!!!", she shouted as an enormous flaming Garuda
attacked Taishakuten.
Taishakuten didn't move, his kekkai held strong as Garuda's attack
passed. The he waved his hand and lightning struck, his sword materializing
out of thin air. He struck at Karura-ou, sending a wave that knocked her
down. As the dust cleared, Karura-ou was lying in a heap, unconscious with
Garuda over her body.
"Karura-ou!", Yasha-ou shouted.
Yasha-ou was about to attack Taishakuten when Karura-ou stopped him.
"I want to kill him myself...", she said hoarsely.
"...Karura-ou...", said Yasha-ou.
Kendappa-ou and Sohma watched from their battle. Sohma wasn't going
to beat Kendappa-ou, she knew that.
Hiyana and Ryu-ou watched from where they were standing. Hiyana
turned to Ryu-oh.
"Karura-ou's going to die...", she said.
Taishakuten's sword ripped through Garuda's body, wounding
Karura-ou's in the process too. Garuda fell, blood gushing. Karura-ou's
face hardened, then she turned just as Taishakuten bore his sword down upon her.
"KARURA-OU!!!", Ryu-ou screamed.
"Karura-ou!!!", Yasha-ou cried.
"KYAAAHHHH!!!!", Sohma screamed, her hands covering her face.
Hiyana gasped, uncertain what to do or say. Taishakuten's sword
plunged into Karura-ou's chest and out her back. Tears ran down her face as
the world began to blur. An image of her sister, Kariyoubinga, appeared and
took her hands.
'Kari...youbinga...' Karura-ou reached out mentally.
Garuda exploded into feathers...as white as the snow...They filled
the great hall, flying, floating in all directions, filling the air.
In Karura-ou's eyes, she saw her sister...
"Onisama...", Kariyoubinga called, her voice ringing like a bell.
"Kariyoubinga...forgive me...", Karura-ou gasped.
Taishakuten pulled his sword out of Karura-ou's chest as she fell
onto her knees and bent over.
"Karura-ou...", Yasha-ou whispered as a feather fell into his palm.
'Kariyoubinga...forgive me for not being able to avenge your
death...will you be mad at me?' Karura-ou asked in her mind. Kariyoubinga
reached out to Karura-ou and embraced her. Karura-ou began to vanish, like
sand falling apart. Taishakuten just stared, emotionless.
'Kariyoubinga...will you sing to me...one more time?' Karura-ou asked,
disappearing. As Karura-ou died, she could hear her sister's sweet voice
singing a melody above beautiful. Karura-ou's body exploded into feathers
and a blast of light shot up to the heavens. Nothing was left except a hole
where the blast of light had shot up from.
Ashura emerged from the vines. Her long hair had grown to her feet,
and her robes had also become longer. Ashura's eye's opened.
TO BE CONTINUED......
Next time: What does Kuyou's prophecy mean? Will Susan keep her promise to
Taishakuten? What happens now that one of the six stars have been killed?
Will Susan be able to control herself when she 'awakens'? What of the
others? What will the ending turn out to be like? Next time on RG Veda:
