Chapter 6: Possession from the Dark Side
They stared at Susan. Susan backed away a bit, confused. Ashura-ou
came forward and took Susan's hands. She blushed.
"Susan...", he whispered.
"A-Ashura-ou... what...", she tried to find the right words.
The room was deathly silent, which made Susan uneasy.
"W-wait a minute! I think, uh, I think I shouldn't be here...", she
stammered.
"No... This is perfect... You should be here...", Ashura-ou soothed.
Susan jumped as Ashura-ou covered her small hands with his other
hand. She jerked it away suddenly.
"Susan...", said Taishakuten.
"About your promise... to Ashura-ou... ", Susan said.
"You know about it?", Taishakuten asked.
"...No, not really...", she was trapped.
"It's all right, Susan...", Ashura-ou tried to calm her down.
Susan remembered how Ashura-ou had died, in the hands of
Taishakuten, but what for? At what cost? Truely she didn't want him to die...
"Ashura-ou, don't make any foolish decisions... I worry...", Susan
blurted.
She realized what she had said and covered her mouth, wishing she
hadn't said that. Ashura-ou's complexion softened even more, making him
incredibly handsome. Taishakuten just stood there, waiting.
"Susan.", Ashura-ou said again.
"I-I have to go.", Susan said quickly and left.
Ashura-ou turned to Taishakuten.
Susan walked down the corridor, slowly, thinking about what had just
happened. She shook the thoughts away and went to look for Hiyana.
Hiyana walked through the forest, silent and swift. She had sneaked
out of the castle, undetected. She swore she'd find her way home, she
wasn't about to relax and stay in Zenmi castle for the rest of her life. As
she walked through the forest, the sky grew ever so darker. Hiyana heard a
sound behind her. She didn't have time to defend herself as it leaped.
"WHAT!?", yelled Susan.
"I saw her leave the castle at dusk. She was saying something about
finding her way home.", one of the spies explained.
Susan was burdened with worry and anger. How could she go out there
at night!? She hardly even knew the story! Susan stormed to the main
audience hall.
"Susan, what's wrong?", asked Tentei.
"Hiyana's gone out, I'm going after her.", Susan said.
"But at this hour? There might be dangers out there, wait until
morning.", he said.
"NO! I'm going RIGHT NOW! If anything hurts her, they'll pay
dearly!", Susan said angrily.
"I'm not going to let you go, it's too dangerous out there,
tonight's the moon of blood.", said Tentei.
That caught her attention.
"What? The moon of blood?", she asked.
"It only happens every one thousand years. It's when the demons are
at their most powerful level. They usually try to break the kekkai around
this time. The strong one's are smarter. They break in earlier.",
Bishamonten explained.
"What? This wasn't in the story...", she whispered.
Susan hesistated, anxious to find her friend and worried as hell.
She turned and headed for the door.
"Susan, I'm not letting you go.", said Tentei.
She stopped.
"You can't make me stay...", she answered.
She continued walking. Then a group of guards blocked the door, not
letting her through. She stopped.
"Get out of my way.", she snarled.
"The emperor says you can't leave.", said one of them.
Susan sighed.
"Tentei, would you rather put Hiyana in danger?", Susan asked
reasonably.
He didn't say anything.
"I can't let you go out there, if she's good enough, she'll come
back.", said Tentei.
"How can you say that?", Susan asked.
"You may not leave, that's final.", said Tentei.
"There's no way I'm letting you stop me... from saving my best
friend!", Susan said angrily.
She advanced towards the door, the guards hesitating.
"I don't want to hurt you, but if you try to keep me from saving my
friend, there'll be hell to pay...", Susan said madly.
They still didn't move, so Susan bolted at them. The first one
swinging his sword at her. Susan ducked and footsweeped him, on to the next
one. She dodged most of the other mens' attacks and when the door was open
to her, she ran down the steps, almost leaping instead. But at the bottom
of the stairs, she skidded to a halt. Ashura-ou and Taishakuten and the
four Shittens stood there, refusing her to leave. Susan backed, knowing
they were a way more than a match for her.
"Susan, you cannot leave.", said Ashura-ou.
"Why!? What have you all been plotting? To keep me here?!", she asked.
"You can't go out there.", said Taishakuten.
"Why aren't you out there, defending Tenkai like you're supposed
to?!", Susan asked.
Taishakuten hesitated. Susan walked boldly to them, her anger leveling.
"I have to help Hiyana, I will NOT abandon her!", she snapped.
"What if she's already dead?", asked Taishakuten.
Susan stopped, wishing it wouldn't happen.
"Then I hope you're wrong.", said Susan as she walked past him first.
She approached the first of the four Shittens, Bishamonten. He just
looked past her, not wanting to quarrel. She past the next three also.
Finally there was Ashura-ou to deal with. He looked as he might be the
toughest one to deal with. Susan walked on.
"Ashura-ou, if you want me to stay here, you will have to kill me.",
said Susan as she paused.
"Susan...", he whispered.
He didn't want to hurt her at all, but the savage look in her eyes
told him nothing in the world could make her stay.
"If you want to leave, you have to get past me first.", he shot back.
Susan was surprised, she didn't expect him to have said that. Her
heart beat wildly as she wondered if she could defeat him. Instead of
dishing out a stance, she just walked right past him. Ashura-ou took out
his hand, and Shurato appeared from it.
"Don't force me...", said Ashura-ou.
Susan hesitated. She knew he was capable of killing her, and that
made her even more anxious. She ignored him and continued. She was pushing
her luck.
"I'm not forcing anyone... every man is responsible for his own
destiny.", said Susan as she reached the gates.
Hiyana walked to the meadow, silent and reserved. She had the look
of delerium in her eyes, which showed no feelings.
Ashura-ou pointed Shurato at Susan, if she moved, it would pierce
her throat. She was bold and courageous, she wouldn't let her friend roam
around dangerously.
"You don't have to do this...", said Ashura-ou.
"Yes I do. Don't you even care about Hiyana one bit?", Susan asked.
Ashura-ou hesitated.
"You control your destiny, not anyone else. It's your life, your
decision. What you do now will affect what happens in the future...", Susan
tried to convince him to let her go.
He still didn't budge, he seemed to be thinking though.
"I don't care what happens to me... I will... save Hiyana, if it's
the last thing I do.", said Susan as she ran past Ashura-ou as he put down
Shurato.
He stared after her, part of him wanting to go, and part of him
uncertain. Susan ran as fast as she could, across the long bridges to the
outer gates. She ran through the silent city and to the meadows. There,
she saw Hiyana, waiting.
"...Hiyana...", Susan said, out of breath.
"I was waiting... what took you so long?", she said in a cold voice
that was not her own.
To be continued...
MAN! What a turning point huh? Majorly. Anyway, I decided to get
to the point and stop lagging the story. If there was anything you didn't
understand in this chapter, you can always email me. Today, March 4, my
stupid mailing thing WILL NOT work! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!!!
Something's definitely wrong and I can't seem to log in to read my darn
mail. It keeps saying something like... Maildrop lock busy, Is another
session active... That's exactly what it says, I didn't misspell anything.
Does anyone know how to kill this thing? This... curse?
