Accidents Will Happen

Suoh was moving towards Nokoru before his mind had even registered what had
happened. The traitorous water seemed to flow around his legs like molasses
hindering his progress. Diving was impossible in a pool this shallow. So he
was forced to slog forward. Three powerful strides brought him to the spot
where the Rijichou had slipped under the surface. Biting down on the growl of
desperation that was rising in his throat the blue haired ninja snarled
silently, reaching out for pale form of his friend.
The Rijichou's body was completely flaccid as Suoh swiftly eased the lax form
to the surface of the pool as gently as he could. He had no idea how badly
injured Nokoru was, but the lack of movement and pallor of the skin were not
a good sign. Clasping Nokoru's wrist, he frowned when he found no pulse.
"Shit!" As carefully as he could he lifted Nokoru out of the pool with one
arm supporting the Rijichou's neck and upper back. The other arm caught up
under his knees. Mentally ticking off the seconds in his mind Suoh laid
almost delicately built chairman down on his stomach. He noticed an unhealthy
blue tinge developing around those beautifully carved lips. Straddling his
lover's thin waist he began to put pressure on Nokoru's back in hopes of
forcing the water out of the smaller man's lungs.
It had taken seconds for Suoh's whole world to come crashing down around him.
But time had ceased for him as he rolled his palms over the back of Nokoru's
lungs. Right now his whole world was focused on the pale profile before him.
Sharp razor edged panic was cutting at his heart and it took all of his
considerable training to focus his attention on the task at hand. He hadn't
lost Nokoru yet and he would not give up the one who was the foundation of
his world without a fight. "I absolutely refuse to lose you over something so
stupid as an accident in a bathing pool. Just think about what it would do to
my reputation. I couldn't live with the shame." He knew he was talking
nonsense. Rambling to keep himself centered as his hands pressed in hard
strokes against the soft yielding flesh. He would follow Nokoru if he
couldn't save him, but it would not be because of any damage to his
reputation real or imagined. Like all Takamura before him, he was but a
shadow. A world without his Rijichou would be a world bathed in everlasting
darkness. Without a source of light, a shadow ceases to exist. Nokoru gave
his life a shape and purpose. He would fade away into nothingness should he
lose this fight. Hope sparked in his heart as a trickle of water began to
fall from the smaller man's lips. A gurgling sound came from the pale throat.
Suoh continued pressing down until the water was expelled almost explosively
out of Nokoru's mouth.
Moving fast Suoh turned the blond over keeping one hand on Nokoru's neck.
There still wasn't a pulse. But he had acted quickly so there was no reason
to lose hope just yet. Counting out the beats, Suoh pressed his crossed hands
over the Rijichou's heart. "Come on, Nokoru. Breathe! Please, just one little
breath!" Tilting the elfin head up slightly Suoh forced his breath down
Nokoru's throat. A weak resistance told him his efforts were paying off and
he continued applying CPR until the blond began to cough as more water
cleared came from his lungs. He held Nokoru steady in strong loving arms as
the blond rid himself of the last of the water. Suoh's eyes were burning
with unshed tears as he watched the blue eyes blink open groggily and slowly
focus up on his face. "Baka! Didn't I tell you to be careful? Why do you
never listen to me?" He choked out around the lump in his throat in an
unintentionally sharp tone.
"I'm sorry for troubling you so," Nokoru's voice was no more than a breathy
whisper. Shakily he lifted an elegant hand to brush against Suoh's cheek. His
vivid eyes were full of understanding. "I don't mean to be so hard on you."
Easily capturing the hand in his own, Suoh kissed the palm in apology for his
harsh words. He hadn't meant to lecture Nokoru just after a near death
experience, but now that the worst was over the fear he suppressed pushed
back were hitting him full force. He felt a pressure building inside. But he
couldn't make himself cry. Warriors didn't cry. He opened his mouth to say
something, but closed it again unsure of how to express his feelings. It
wasn't all that often that he felt like letting them out. Even so, he had to
find some way to tell Nokoru what was in his heart.
Nokoru's blue eyes watched Suoh knowingly as he smiled softly," It's all
right. I know how you feel, Suoh. I have always known. I love you too." He
weakly squeezed the hands holding his hand. "Doumo arigatou for more than my
life."
"You don't need to thank me, Nokoru. I could have done nothing else. You are
my world." Suoh squeezed back looking deeply into Nokoru's eyes for what
seemed to be an eternity. Gently he kissed away the silver tears that fell
from those luminous blue orbs accepting the gift Nokoru was so graciously
giving him. When time started again he let Nokoru's hand go so he could
examine his lover's head. "There doesn't appear to be any real damage but
your going to have a nasty bruise on the side of your head. Your eyes don't
look dilated. How is your vision? Does your neck hurt at all?" Bending
forward Suoh peered closely into Nokoru's eyes.
"My head does feel a little tender where I struck it, but that's all. My
eyes are fine. Especially considering what they are seeing." Nokoru quipped
feeling the spot on his forehead where Suoh's hands had touched.
Suoh scrutinized his rumpled Rijichou trying to decide if Nokoru was flirting
in an effort to hide pain or if it really was simple flirtation. He wouldn't
put it past Nokoru to try and keep him from worrying by hiding just how much
pain he was in. "You have a one track mind."
The even blue jewels that met his stare were tired, but also filled with
amusement. "Oh my mind has a lot more than one track. I just know what I want
and I am not shy about going after it." Was the Rijichou's easy reply as he
dropped his hands to his lap."
There was a little bit of strain in Nokoru's voice but the blonde's banter
helped to reassure Suoh. "That's certainly true." The ninja admitted with a
long suffering note in his voice that was belied by the good-humored
expression on his face. "Here let me help you sit up." Pushing himself
upright Suoh supported Nokoru's back against his lower legs and gently
inserting his hands under the smaller man's arms lifted the blond into a
sitting position. "That's good, now you just sit still while I get your
clothes. I'll get dressed and then I can take you to the hospital." Suoh
pushed himself up and turned towards the dressing area when a hand on his
ankle stopped him.
Letting go of Suoh's ankle, Nokoru grinned up at the ninja. "Suoh, you're
covered in suds and I haven't even washed up yet. Besides, do you really
think a trip to the hospital is necessary? I really am all right."
Turning away from the blond, Suoh blushed in embarrassment as he stepped back
into the pool. He had completely forgotten that he had just scrubbed himself
up right before Nokoru fell. Rinsing himself off with a quick dip in the
water he threw Nokoru a jaundiced look over his shoulder. " Yes, I think the
hospital is necessary. You may feel fine now, but you stopped breathing,
Nokoru." Suoh's voice grew very quiet. A soul deep sadness glimmered in the
bright topaz eyes. "I almost lost you. I know you don't like being fussed
over, but it's possible that you could have a concussion without realizing
it. Right now I need to take care of you. Let me please? You can wash up
after you see the doctor."
Dropping his head in defeat, Nokoru gave in without a fight. In light of
Suoh's hurting and his obvious need for reassurance, he could not refuse his
faithful friend and lover. Suoh did have a good point. Concussions were not
something to be taken lightly. To keep Suoh from worrying, he would go to
the hospital. But he didn't intend to spend the night there. "All right I'll
go, but if they want to observe me they can do so here in the mansion. After
everything that's happened I want to sleep in my own room tonight.
Some of the tension drained out of Suoh's shoulders as he realized Nokoru
wasn't going to give him an argument and nodded agreeably as he climbed out
of the pool. " That can be arranged."
Picking up his towel from the floor Nokoru dried himself off smiling
appreciatively at his ninja as he watched Suoh towel his firm body dry. The
warmth of desire rekindled on his handsome face.
Suoh returned the look as he brought Nokoru his school uniform. His heart
skipped a beat at what he saw. You wouldn't think that a half drowned man
could look sexy. The damp disheveled golden crown along with the bruise
purpling at the hairline gave Nokoru a bedraggled appearance. But the blue
eyes were clear and Nokoru's skin had regained its normal healthy glow. To
Suoh it was the most beautiful sight in the world. The blond seemed to be
managing well enough in dressing himself. So Suoh turned his mind to donning
his school uniform. He dressed quickly so he was ready when Rijichou tried to
stand by himself. Stilling the smaller man by dropping a hand to the
Rijichou's shoulder Suoh shook his head. "I don't want you doing a lot of
walking if you do have a concussion. Give me a moment. The rest of security
needs to know what has happened and then I'll have them bring the car around.
After that, I will carry you out to the car."
Having scooted over to a dryer location Nokoru leaned forward propping up his
chin on the clasped fingers of his hands. He watched Suoh pull out a small
black cellular phone and punch in a number. He waited patiently as Suoh
explained what had happened in his usual composed manner. Nokoru winced as
Suoh held the phone away from his ear and the sound of a loud expletive from
the person on the receiving end of the call could be heard. Nokoru was well
liked by the servants and security and they would not be happy until they
were satisfied that he was in no danger.
"He's fine as far as I can see." Suoh soothed the agitated man on the phone.
That calmed the fellow down. Everyone in the household knew how seriously he
took his task of protecting the Rijichou. If he was calm they wouldn't worry
themselves. "But I am going to take him to the hospital just to be certain.
Yes, send the car around. No, I can manage to get him to the car park on my
own. I'll keep you informed." Folding the phone, Suoh tucked it into the
pocket of his uniform.
