Accidents Will Happen

"Put your arms around my neck," Suoh advised as he knelt next to Nokoru.
The Rijichou did as he was told, leaning his head against Suoh's shoulder as
the Takamura heir lifted him from the tiled floor. Closing his eyes, Nokoru
was reassured by the strong arms enfolding him protectively. The journey
from the bathing pool to the car port where the car waited to take them to
the hospital was too short by Nokoru's estimation. He let go of Suoh
reluctantly as the ninja set him down in the limousine.
Suoh knew that his friend needed to be reassured that he was still there,
when the blond did not object to being carried out of the mansion. True,
Nokoru was a sensualist and reveled in being touched, but even so he would
normally have maintained that he was perfectly capable of walking out on his
own. It was obvious that the event had shaken the blond, since he simply did
as he was told. Besides a near death experience was enough to unsettle
anyone. Suoh took Nokoru's hand in his own as he sat down beside the
Rijichou. In the limo no one would see them. To be honest, he also felt
reassured by the warm fingers entwined with his.
Nokoru watched the beautiful landscape of the campus going by outside the
window grateful to be alive. Glancing over at the man to whom he owed so very
much his heart was filled with regret. The fear in those golden eyes cut him
to the core. Being the logical creature he was, Nokoru knew that accidents
would happen, there wasn't anything that either of them could do about that.
Nor was there anything he could do to keep Suoh from worrying. But, he could
prove that there was no need to worry. Once they were finished at the
hospital he fully intended to do something about that haunted look the ninja
was giving him whenever he thought he wasn't being watched.
When they arrived at the hospital Suoh got out and found a wheel chair just
inside the doors of the building. Wheeling it out he parked it next to the
limousine, locking the wheels in place. Nokoru slid to the edge of the seat
when Suoh opened the door. He leaned into the ninja's arms as he was lifted
out of the car and deposited into the wheelchair. Closing the door to the
limousine, Suoh unlocked the chair's wheels and pushed the Rijichou into the
hospital. A smiling young woman with short brown hair and a pixie face
wearing a nurse's uniform shooed Suoh away from the wheelchair. "Oh dear, Its
Rijichou Imonoyama-san. I hope everything is all right."
"That's what we are here to find out." Suoh replied pleasantly.
"I fell and hit my head." Nokoru filled in, when the nurse looked at them
blankly.
She frowned as she caught sight of the bruise. "You certainly did." Giving
him a pat on the hand and a winning smile she said," Well don't you worry,
we'll take good care of you Rijichou Imonoyama-san." Facing Suoh she pointed
towards the admissions desk. " I'll take him to a treatment room if you would
please sign him in. He'll be in room 201.
Squelching the urge to follow them despite the nurse's reassurances Suoh
picked up an admissions form from the nurse at the front desk and began
filling it out. It didn't take long, because he knew Nokoru's personal
information and medical history as well as he did his own. The doctor was
already in with Nokoru when Suoh poked his head into the room.
Deciding to give them some privacy, Suoh headed down the hall to the waiting
room. He sat down on one of the comfortable chairs that were spread around
the bright little room and looked up at the TV that had been attached to the
far right wall. Some game show he didn't recognize was playing. Suoh let his
mind drift as an announcer described the rules for the game.
Analyzing the Rijichou's fall, Suoh sighed giving the TV a disgruntled look.
He couldn't find anything that he could have done differently. Nokoru was a
klutz and that was all there was to it. It was too bad that he couldn't just
sequester Nokoru away somewhere safe for the rest of his life. But Imonoyama
Nokoru was so empathic a soul that shutting him away from the world would be
like severing a limb. Suoh knew he didn't have the heart do to that to his
chosen, even if it would save him a lot of trouble in the long run. Nokoru
would never be happy living like that. He wanted Nokoru to be happy as well
as healthy.
"Takamura Sempi, I heard what happened. Is Rijichou all right?" A melodious
voice startled Suoh from his thoughts and he looked towards the door where a
tall handsome young man with glossy black hair and quicksilver eyes stood
wearing a CLAMP school uniform. His normally wide smile was replaced by a
worried frown.
"Ijyuin, please join me." Suoh motioned towards a chair next to the one he
had chosen. "He seemed to be fine when I saw him last. This," Suoh waved his
hands to indicate the hospital," is just a precaution in case he was hurt
worse than either of us could tell. Rijichou is in with the doctor right now
so we may be in for a wait."
Some of the tension drained from Akira's face as he crossed over to the chair
Suoh had pointed out. "What happened? I heard all sorts of stories. But you
know how the grapevine is. You never know what is truth and what is
exaggeration. All I know for certain is that Nokoru was hurt somehow and you
took him to the hospital."
"The truth is, Nokoru bent down to pick up some soap while in the bathing
pool and hit his head on the edge of the pool. He doesn't seem to have any
symptoms of a concussion but I wanted to make absolutely certain that he was
fine." It wasn't the whole truth, but Akira didn't need to know that Nokoru
nearly drowned. It would serve no purpose other than to upset the sensitive
treasurer. Akira was bound to worry about Nokoru too much as it was.
"I'm glad to hear that." Akira nearly blinded Suoh with his relived smile.
"The rumors going around campus range from a bump on the arm to major heart
surgery. Rijichou is going to be answering a calls from a lot of concerned
people if we don't do a little damage control."
"It's amazing how fast rumors can spread." Suoh shook his head dazedly. It
had only been about an hour to an hour and a half since Nokoru had hurt
himself and already the news had started spreading across the campus.
"Imonoyama Rijichou is very popular on the campus." Akira burbled in a
happier voice than Suoh had heard him use this entire conversation. "Once we
hear from the doctor I think I'll make an official statement. That should
take care of the rumors."
Suoh flashed a grateful glance at his smiling friend. "Doumo arigatou, Akira.
I know Rijichou will be very happy not to have to deal with so many people
right now."
"It's nice to know that people are concerned about you but it can become
overwhelming sometimes." Akira nodded in agreement.
"Exactly."
"Excuse me, Takamura-san?" A soft voice at the doorway caused both men to
look up. A beautiful redheaded lady in a long white coat was watching them
with wide green eyes. "My apologies for interrupting but I am Doctor Sung. I
just finished examining Rijichou Imonoyama."
"How is he?" Suoh and Akira said in unison.
The doctor grinned in response. "I am happy to be able to report that the
Rijichou is fine. There was no sign of a concussion or any other problems
besides the bruise." Akira beamed happily while Suoh sagged back against his
chair in relief.
Turning to face Suoh Dr. Sung continued, "But it probably wouldn't be a bad
idea for you to lighten his workload for a day or two. His head is going to
be tender for a while until that bruise heals. I have given him some pain
medication, but the pills will make him drowsy if he takes them. The Rijichou
is waiting for you down the hall in the room in which he was examined. I am
very sorry, but I have to get going on my rounds now.
"I understand, doumo arigatou Sensei." Suoh and Akira both bowed to the lady
as she took her leave.
"I think I'll walk you both out to the car and then I can go make an
announcement for the campus." Akira bounced out the door skipping. His
cheerful self restored by the Sensei's good news.
Suoh followed him out the door and down the hall a more sedate pace.
Nokoru was waiting for them in room 201 as promised. He smiled at his friends
as they entered the room. "Hello Akria, did you hear about my fall?"
"Yes, I did. I'm very happy to see that you're all right. I have something I
need to do, but I can walk out with you. And maybe later I can send something
good over for desert if you like." Akira offered with a smile as Suoh gave
Nokoru a hand up.
Smiling in thanks at Suoh, Nokoru turned to Akira with a nod as the three
friends left the hospital room. "That would be delightful. I adore your
cooking."
"Is there anything specific you'd like?" Akira asked with a winsome
expression as he followed Nokoru down the stairs to the first level.
"Why don't you surprise me?" Nokoru turned to wait for his friends when he
reached the first floor. "Anything you make will be good, Akira." He called
up the stairs.
"Hai, that's what I'll do then. I'll be sure to pick something very special."
Akira assured him as he bounded down the steps with seemingly limitless
energy.
"Doumo arigatou, Akira you spoil Suoh and myself." Nokoru motioned towards
Suoh with elegant wave of his hand. "But I can't say that I mind."
"Who would mind being spoiled by Akira?" Suoh asked as they neared the
hospital entrance.
"Good point, I can't think of a single person myself." Nokoru said with a
smile for Akira.
"You are both too kind." Akira bowed to his friends a blush on his smiling
face. "Doumo arigatou, for now I must leave, but I will send you that special
treat tonight. Try to get some rest Rijichou, Sempi."
"I'll make certain he does," Suoh said with a bow.
"And I'll make certain that Suoh gets some rest too. We'll talk to you
later," Nokoru bobbed his head in a small bow and waved as a satisfied Akira
disappeared out the door.
The limousine was waiting ready and waiting when Suoh and Nokoru left the
hospital building. With Nokoru's health assured the natural order of Suoh's
world was restored. Gazing at the golden head that was turned away from him
towards the window he finally allowed himself to believe that Nokoru was
going to be all right. So relaxed was the ninja that when the urge to touch
the blonde's sunlit hair came over him he simply gave in to it. The golden
strands, like the finest silk slid softly through his exploring fingers as
the Rijichou turned towards the touch. A gentle smile brightening his elfin
face.
