Well...people thought "Stained Scarlet" should be longer ^.^ I honestly
didn't expect that fic to have nice reviews, but I'm glad it did.
This is a prequel to that fic. Hope you enjoy it. Oh, and this is way
longer than the last one
Angel Eyes
by Shinri Ayase
The Crystal Universe twinkled against the vast nothingness of the Lonely
Void. 'Beautiful,' Arizel found himself thinking. His wings carried him
away from his home, taking him further and further away from his beloved home.
But he had no regrets. The Almighty is sending him to Eden, one of the
His Creations. Arizel was to help construct it, he was to make sure that
every patch was of the perfect color, of the proper scent.
It was strange. Before He began to Create another universe, the concept
of color or scent were virtually unknown and now...
Now that he knew them, he cherished them with all his heart.
He looked straight before him and studied Chantinel, the angel who shall
help with the idea of birds. She was the one leading him to Eden, and her
wings took no effort in holding her up. She was one with strange ideas.
"Birds," he remembered her saying, "are flying creatures. They sing sweetly
and have pretty colors sometimes. But sometimes, they hunt other animals
and are very good at it."
Arizel found these ideas confusing, perhaps because he never encountered
the concept of "hunt" before. He never managed to learn what it was,
however, as they began to descend.
A barrage of colors and scents greeted them with a sense of gaiety and
excitement. Chantinel disappeared from his side as she found a perfect spot
for a bird to call home.
"It's amazing, isn't it?" he heard a smooth voice call out to him. He
turned around and saw a pair of eyes staring back at him. He felt his face
grow...What did the Morning Star name that feeling again? Warm?
His thoughts ceased to be as the other angel smiled and spoke once more.
"Arizel, isn't it? I am named Tanicel."
The smaller angel nodded numbly, recalling the Naming. This was,
indeed, Tanicel, one of the warriors. Arizel had forgotten that it was he
who has been appointed to supervise the construction of Eden. He had also
forgotten how intensely this one could gaze.
He could see his pale skin change into a peculiar color due to the
growing warmth within him. For a moment, he forgot the angel standing
before him and silently named the color "pink". Satisfied he looked up at
Tanicel once more and nodded slowly. "I am Arizel. I was sent here."
The smile on the other angel's face seemed wider as he led him around
the place he calls "garden". The Almighty had always called the place Eden,
and Arizel never dreamed that it could be called anything else.
He found himself inspecting every detail, nodding with approval or
shaking his head with disappointment. He could feel himself growing warmer
whenever he feels Tanicel's gaze upon him.
Unfortunately, the warrior angel never seemed to stop gazing at him.
They eventually stood before a vast, colorless piece of land, and
Arizel's violet eyes began to glint with determination. Tanicel left him
there reluctantly.
The moment, he was alone, the slighter angel set about his task,
wondering why he could never seem to forget those eyes.
Slowly by slowly colors emerged from his finger tips, painting the
landscape in many different colors and shades that Arizel could imagine. He
eventually found himself looking down upon the ground, the soil, and
wondering what color the Almighty would deem most appropriate. Tanicel's
eyes did not stop haunting him...
And he realized that their color was perfect for the earth. Strong and
stable, and at the same time, warm and safe. He began to feel himself
growing warm again at the thought of the other angel, and he failed to
comprehend why.
Tanicel praised him highly for his work, and he felt pleased. He
realized that the other angel was pleased with him too, and it was...
wonderful, as Lucifer would say. Lucifer was in charge of emotions and
feelings, and Arizel tends to take his work into reference more than usual,
now.
Finally, Arizel discovered what the Morning Star had called that he was
experiencing: Love. It was a beautiful name, the angel would think, and he
continued loving Tanicel.
It was timeless and beautiful, the moments they spent together, when
they would laugh and talk and sing the songs that Chantinel had taught the
birds to sing.
And yet things would need an end. Arizel was sent to work on The Tree,
and never saw Tanicel for the longest time. It caused him pain, a bitter
ache within himself.
When he saw Tanicel once more, he found himself overjoyed, and slowly by
slowly, he realized that something must have gone wrong.
He was forgetting the Almighty. His faith was beginning to wane.
And so he left Eden, trying to run away from this Love. It frightened
him, knowing that the Almighty should be above all else.
Something called Time drifted past him, and found himself standing by
the Gates of the Crystal Universe, watching in horror as his fellow angels'
wings were cut off with swords and with sorrow as he saw them Falling.
He felt himself being torn apart as Tanicel set himself before him, his
eyes full of Love and without regret. "I Love You," was what he said, not
even blinking as he stepped backwards and joined Lucifer in the cold, dark
abyss. He was the first being to ever say those three beautiful words.
Arizel felt the soft trickle of warmth on his cheek. He was torn, and
thus he named his eye's liquid "tears".
Kamui was jolted out of his reverie as the teacher called his name. He
tried to remember what the question was, and realized it was the poetry
assignment the old man was asking for. He stood up and began to read the
poem he composed for a lover long-gone.
"You held me close
And kept me warm
Beneath your wings
Away from harm
Your angel eyes
Watch over me
It's almost like
We're meant to be
Yet sadly, I had pulled away
Afraid we'll both be hurt someday
And still, you watch with angel eyes
Remembering these days gone by
Earth Angel now, you'll always be
Remembering your time with me
If only we could meet again
And even if we're only friends
I'm living with the worst regret
Of letting go, but not forget
Your Angel Eyes stare back at me
Though they are kind, they're haunting me..."
The silence was there, and for the moment, Kamui was Arizel, and he was
walking the paths of Eden with his beloved Tanicel.
