Yes, it's time to groan, it's another Christmas inspired fic. Deal, hehe.
Title: Snowdrops
Author: Kim (missczech19@aol.com)
Warnings: Absolutely none, unless bittersweet sap and Keiichi need warnings.
Pairings: None, it's not even shounen-ai unless you're looking for it
Notes: This is sappy, and Christmas inspired, but I tried to keep the boys in
line. This was written in about 20 minutes, so it's just a little fic. Any
and all critiques, criticisms, concerns, or what have you are welcome. This
was my first non parody fic and I wasn't going to post it, but I figured what
the hell.
Snowdrops
The evening definitely was not going as he had planned. Looking down at his
feet, Keiichi kicked at a piece of newspaper that blew in his path in the icy
wind. He sighed, his warm breath puffing out in front of him, and shoved his
hands deeper in his pockets. Walking sullenly next to him, Kamui snorted as
the newspaper flew into his path and sent a scathing glare at the taller boy.
Keiichi bore the look silently, and just turned a tired grin to his friend.
Kamui rolled his eyes and shivered as the wind gusted stronger.
"I'm sorry, Shirou-kun, I guess it wasn't the best idea to go out tonight,"
Keiichi murmured.
"I'd say." Kamui looked out over the nearly empty park they were walking
through, the area dark and exposed, making the chill creep into his small
frame all the more.
Keiichi looked towards the sky, which was a smoky grey, the cloud cover and
city smog made opaque by the lights below. "We can't even see the stars."
"You'll never see stars in the middle of a city, you should know that." Kamui
was starting to get irritated. He was cold, stuck with Keiichi on an
excursion that he had been coerced into, on a night where he wanted nothing
more to curl up in a ball and forget the world.
Keiichi frowned. "I know that, but it'd still be nice. When I was little, I
always tried to find a shooting star, so I could make a wish. Dad even got me
a telescope one year."
"I'm beginning to think wishes are useless," Kamui snapped, "can we leave
now? I'm freezing."
Keiichi stopped and blinked, noticing for the first time how Kamui was almost
shaking, his thin jacket doing nothing to stave off the cold. "I'm sorry! I
didn't even think about that, I'm all bundled up." Before Kamui could react,
Keiichi was shrugging off his wool peacoat and settling it on Kamui's narrow
shoulders.
It looked ridiculous, Kamui was so tiny he drowned in the garment, but he had
to admit it was much warmer, and unconsciously started burrowing into the
soft warmth. A light smell drifted over him, something clean and fruity.
Keiichi's soap and shampoo his brain supplied.
It smelt good, and Kamui frowned, chewing on his chapped lip.
It finally registered that if he was wearing Keiichi's coat, Keiichi was
wearing nothing but a sweater. "I can't wear this, you'll catch pneumonia and
I'll have to hear you wheezing and hacking every day."
Keiichi wrapped his arms around himself and shook his head. "I'm made of
strong stuff, a little wind won't do me in! Besides, I can fight off a cold
much better than you can."
Kamui scowled. "Anyway, can we go back now? You'll be dead before long and
it's getting late. I wanna sleep."
"I guess so. I really bungled this up, didn't I?"
"It's not your fault the weather is bad," Kamui added sarcastically before he
started hurrying off.
"I know!"
Kamui stopped, and turned around, an eyebrow raised at the shortness of the
blond's tone. Keiichi had 2 modes, genki and not quite so genki. This was
something new.
Keiichi stood shaking, rubbing his arms to keep himself warm, his head bowed,
that ever-present smile gone. "I...I just wanted to make this Christmas nice.
It was always such a big deal in my family, we could all be together and be
happy in the middle of the dreary winter. We didn't believe in the Christian
stuff, but it was still nice, you know? But they're gone, and it won't ever
be as warm as it was ever again. And all I wanted was to spend this one with
someone special and try to make them warm like my family made me, and here I
made you almost freeze. I can never do you any good."
Kamui listened to the sad speech, and for once found his irritation
evaporate. He really hadn't been giving Keiichi a chance, just humouring him
while he groused internally. Keiichi always thought of him, and did he ever
think of Keiichi? Kamui felt shame creeping over him.
Before he even knew what he was doing, he had walked to Keiichi, and
impulsively grabbed his hand, pulling him close. "Thank you. You always try,
with the best intentions in your heart, and that is all that matters. Your
family would be proud, and I'm glad you think I'm worth the attention, even
if I'm not." Kamui stared at the ground, a pink flush rising on his cheeks,
embarrassed at all he just said.
Keiichi stared at the blushing boy, and a large, sunny grin spread across his
face. "You'll always be worth it to me, Kamui-kun." He took Kamui's remaining
hand in his, twining their fingers together in a reassuring squeeze. They
just stood there, not wanting to move in spite of the weather.
Kamui looked up to Keiichi's face, and was greeted with a snowflake in the
eye.
"It's starting to snow on Christmas Eve!"
"I wouldn't be too happy about that, now you're going to be cold and wet!"
Kamui teased.
"Hmmph!" Keiichi broke off their handhold, to circle about, his tongue
sticking out of his mouth comically.
"What in the world are you doing?"
"Isth suppoth to be gwood wuck..."
"Put your tongue in you mouth, you idiot."
Keiichi grinned. "It's supposed to be good luck if you catch a snowflake on
your tongue during the first snowfall of the year. Come on, it's Christmas!"
He stuck his tongue out at Kamui, and crossed his eyes in a cute silly face.
Kamui broke out into a genuine smile, sent a weird face back at the older
boy, and stuck his tongue out as well.
The snowflakes quickly started falling heavily, and soon the boys were
red-faced and laughing as they chased snowflakes.
"You're going to be blue if we don't head back," Kamui said breathlessly as a
small poorly made snowball hit him upside the head. "You're lucky I am above
snowballing you dressed like that."
Keiichi giggled and sneezed. "Uh oh..."
Kamui walked over, and wrapped his arm around the blond's waist. "Here, we
can keep each other warm, isn't that what this was all about? Though, if you
get me sick, I am going to hurt you."
Keiichi just smiled wide, and wrapped his arm around Kamui's shoulders. "All
right!"
The evening had gone exactly as he had planned.
The End
Lemme know what you think ^^
