Sakura Tenken

The sun shone brightly upon the orchard as a lone boy strolled through
it. He wore the standard hakama for a samurai of the feudal days of Japan
and his sword hung comfortably by his hip. It swayed slightly side to side
with each step he took, but it made no sound. The boy himself was young,
very young in fact. You could almost say he was too young for his line of
work. You could also say his attitude was quite different from all the
other professionals who did the same type of job as him.
This boy was a very cheerful, always smiling, very polite, ruthless
assassin. His name was Seta Soujiro. His motto: Service with a smile.
On this particular day, Seta was wandering through the sakura orchard
and talking to himself as people are apt to do when wandering. This was a
very sad day for him, but as always, Seta was still smiling.
"Hen desu yo ne, Shishio-san...you're dead now so I have to find a new
master. But where do I find someone strange enough to take your place?"
The boy stopped walking as he thought for a moment. He turned his gaze up
to the blossoming sakura branches that stretched out over his head and
sighed slightly. "They're so pretty...the sakura blossoms..."
Suddenly, a cold yet smooth and extremely sinister voice floated out
over the air. Even in its evilness, you could detect a hint of playfulness.
The same type of playfulness that a cat has with a mouse just before it
bites the mouse's little head off. "Do you like them? The sakura blossoms
I mean. Do you like them?"
Seta blinked and turned his attention to a shadowy figure standing
beneath the sakura tree before him. The boy smiled mysteriously and
nodded. "Yes, they're quite beautiful."
The figure's dark smile was hidden by the shadows surrounding it and it
turns its gaze up to the tree next to it. "Do you know why the sakura
petals are pink? Normally they're as white as snow..."
Seta paused for a moment. This was a difficult question to most people
and he had to think about the answer. He lowered his head slightly as he
thought. The figure smirked and began to move out of the shadows when Seta
raised his head and smiled innocently.
"Isn't it because the sakura feed off the blood of the corpse residing
beneath it?" Seta's bright and cheery voice caused the figure to falter in
its step. It blinked and stared at the boy before it. A long pause settled
between them as they stared at each other.
Slowly the figure began to speak. "Ee...."
Seta continued to smile as he spoke again. "And don't you think it's
so very lovely that the people down there are in pain?"
"...Ee."
The young boy assassin turned his gaze back up to the flowering
branches and smiled serenely. "I do so love the sakura trees..." He faced
the figure who was still hidden in the shadows and grinned. "Don't you?"
The shadow blinked again. "...Ee..."
Seta blinked and suddenly bowed. "Forgive my rudeness!! My name is
Seta Soujiro. May I ask what your name is?"
"Sakurazuka Seishirou..."
"Nice to meet you, Seishirou-san."
"Same to you..." Seishirou finally stepped completely out of the
shadows and fidgeted uncharacteristically under the bright and unfaltering
smile of the younger boy.
Seta smiled winningly...again..and laid a gentle hand on the sakura
tree's trunk. "I would love to care for these trees and help them grow
stronger. Would you happen to know who owns this orchard? The blossoms
aren't looking very well. See how they're still a little white?"
Seta pulled one flower bloom from the branch and held it out to the
Sakurazuka sadly. The young boy sighed slightly and clasped the blossom
between his hands. "It's just not pink enough." He grinned. "I want to
change that."
Seishirou eyed the boy uneasily (as uneasily as he was capable of) from
behind his sunglasses. Hesitantly, he answered him. "Yes..I know who owns
this orchard."
The boy grinned and clapped his hands together, crushing the sakura
blossom. "Yatta!! Would you mind taking me to him? I would like to
discuss a certain manner of -business- with him."
"And what -business- would that be?"
"That will only be discussed with the owner." Seta smiled coldly and
let the crushed sakura blossom fall from his fingers to the grass.
They shared a long moment of silence as they stared at each other once
more. Slowly, Seishirou smiled and nodded slightly. "Of course. I'll take
you right to him. Right this way please."
Allowing Seta to proceed him as they walked through the orchard,
Seishirou turned to the sakura trees around him and smiled. "Looks like I
have a new gardener."
