Heyla!
This 'fic is pure silliness. It's actually a response to one of the
discussions that came up a few days ago on cffml. I know it's a bit
late, but there was a little research that needed to be done for it
first. ;) The story is in the spirit of those character collages
that CLAMP does from time to time. I'm sure some people are getting
left out here, so if anyone knows of a series I've missed, please e-
mail me. It can always be added to the guest list for next year. :)

Kujaku perched in the branches of a tall oak tree, smiling down at
the group of people lounging on the ground below. "See, it wasn't
such a bad idea to stop here," he said, talking without really paying
attention to whether anyone happened to be listening to him or not.
He tossed his head in the breeze, purple eyes glinting with delight.
The spot that had been chosen for today's event was quite scenic--a
grassy field with scattered trees, bright tents, and picnic blankets
set up in the sun. There was a small pond at the center of
everything. "It's such a nice day. We don't get out much, after
all.
Even though some people might complain about the exercise, it'll be
good to meet new people."
"Speak for yourself." Ryu-ou, at least, was listening. "As if we
don't have better things to do. If you want to go meet new people,
then go. Don't sit here talking to us about it." Yasha-ou, sitting
next to him beneath the tree, was silent as he held the sheathed
blade of Yama-to in his hands.
"Everyone needs a break from destiny now and then," Kujaku replied
with a broad wink. "Karura and Sohma are relaxing, and Ashura seems
to be having fun." He nodded over to where Ashura was laughing and
chasing butterflies across the open grass. Then he frowned and looked
downward again. "Hey, Yasha! Are you listening? Don't just sit
there with that sword. Get up and mingle with the common folk!"
Yasha ignored him. But he looked up alertly as two boys dressed in
high school uniforms entered the territory that the RG Veda group had
staked out as their own. "Hello!" The brown-haired boy said
brightly, oblivious to any possible danger. "I'm Kentarou
Higashikunimaru, and this is Takeshi Shuukaido. Together we are
Campus C...."
His words were muffled as the boy with blue-black hair standing
beside him clapped a hand over his mouth. "We're security," the
other boy said, to fill in the pause. "We need to see your
invitations."
"I have them." Karura-ou looked up from her sunbathing to produce
several pieces of pasteboard, printed with bright gold and blue
lettering. Kentarou snatched them up before Takeshi could, reading
the words aloud in a solemn voice.
"The CLAMP First Annual Picnic for Under Appreciated Series. No CCS,
TB, or X characters allowed--one day only. Sponsored by the
Imonoyama Group and CLAMP Campus. Admit one." He examined the names
on each of the paper cards, then gave a satisfied nod and handed them
back to her. "You're clear."
Karura-ou accepted them with an amused smile. "Thank you."
"That's two series down," Kentarou said cheerily as they walked away
towards one of the other groups gathered on the field. "How many are
left?"
Takeshi consulted his clipboard. "Lots. It'll take forever to check
all the tickets at this rate. We'd better hurry. People are
starting to separate from the groups they came with."
A shadow fell over them, and there was a loud rushing noise from
overhead. Both of the students looked up. "Giant Robots! " Kentarou
exclaimed. "Takeshi! We have to change into Campus Cop Du--....!"
Takashi quickly cut him off by covering his mouth again, casting a
nervous glance back at the RG Veda group. "How many times do I have
to tell you not to say that! And anyway, it's just the Mashin from
'Rayearth'."
The three armored figures landed on the grass well away from the
gathered crowd. Guru Clef transported the other members of the series
in as the three Magic Knights beamed down from the Mashin. ...All
except for Lantis, who insisted on making a stylish entrance of his
own on his cool black horse.
"Oh. Then I guess they're all right." The two started over to
the group to see their invitations, when suddenly Kentarou stopped,
looking over at two figures dressed in suit jackets talking
underneath one of the trees. "Who are they?"
"Those are the guys from 'Combination'. They're cops."
"Ah! Okay," Kentarou beamed. "Then they're all right, too."
Takashi just sighed and shook his head. "Come on. We have to check
their tickets."
A girl with short-trimmed white hair wandered past the two boys,
looking with wide green eyes at everything around her. She slowed by
one of the picnic blankets, the chosen spot of an unusual collection
of characters. The person sitting nearest to her, an androgynous
looking individual with long white-blond hair and jade eyes, looked
up as the girl came to a halt. "Have you lost your group?" The voice
was quiet, musical. "You're welcome to join us, if you'd like."
The girl blinked. "You have wings."
The person smiled gently. "Yes." In fact, six of the eight people
sitting on the blanket had wings. The other two were obviously
human, a young man and an old one. And there were also two cats.
Suu was fascinated.
"Come and sit down with us!" one of the other winged people, who had
unruly blond hair and amber eyes, piped in cheerfully. "Would you
like some food? We have plenty. Most of us don't actually eat."
Suu pondered for a moment. "Okay." She knelt down on the blanket as
the angels of 'Wish' made room for her.
Presea of 'Rayearth' trotted quickly by. The Pharle was chasing
after a SD little girl who was wearing a crown on her head. Princess
Mokona had arrived less than three minutes ago, and already she was
making a beeline for the flower decorations around one of the tents,
preparing to wreak havoc. Presea was looking rather harried, and
could be heard muttering, "this is absolutely the *last* time I'm
ever
volunteering to baby sit! And I thought the *fuzzy* version of
Mokona was bad!!"
In a wide space behind the tent, Gigei from 'RG Veda' had started up
a jam session involving her dance troupe and Caldina from 'Rayearth'.
Kendappa-ou was providing music on her harp and Nagisa on her flute,
while Oruha sang and two women from 'Shin Shunkaden' kept time on
their drums. The group had collected a modest audience, mostly minor
characters from the cast of RG Veda, MKR, and some of the girl/boy
pairs from 'Watashi no Sukina Hito'.
A group of three teenage girls from 'Suki Dakara Suki' had paused to
watch the performance also. Hinata Asahi, who was wishing that she
could have brought Waka with her, glanced away and caught sight of
someone standing near another one of the tents. A warm, tingly
feeling immediately spread through her heart. "Oh, look!" she
exclaimed happily, "There's my new neighbor! HEY, NEIGHBOR-SAN!"
An older man wearing glasses turned from where he had just coaxed a
black cat to come out from behind a tree. Sirou Asou sighed as he
picked up the cat and stood. "It's Sensei," he said in resignation,
his voice hardly audible over the background noise of the musicians.
In a different corner of the field, the Autozam contingent had set up
camp. Eagle was perched rather precariously on the edge of a lawn
chair, examining some schematics on his datapad. Geo was staring out
at the crowd of gathered CLAMP characters, wishing that Eagle had
decided to bring the FTO. They'd hardly been here ten minutes, and
already he was bored. "Hey," Geo said abruptly, "Shouldn't the
characters from Soryuden be here, too?"
"That's one of those grey areas," Zazu piped in. "CLAMP did art for
the novels, but it's not written by them. You'll notice that the
CLAMP fanfic is pretty much all crossovers."
"Still," Eagle said absently, "I think they were invited as guests.
The 'CLAMP Gakuen Kaikigenshou Kenkyuukai Jinken File' characters are
all here, and that was done in collaboration with an outside writer,
too." He nodded over to where four of the five CLAMP School students
belonging to the Strange Phenomenon Research Society were clustered
on the grass. Takayuki Usyagiya was reading a book. Suoh's cousin
Kouji was demonstrating martial arts...or trying to. Rion Ibuki and
Yuuki Ajiadou were making flower chains. Yuuki seemed determined to
decorate his long blond hair and black CLAMP School dress with as
many flowers as possible.
Another group of guests, from the manga 'Elementalors', were sitting
on the grass a short distance away. Just beyond them, the cheerful
young girl from 'Rex' and her pet dinosaur were sitting on a pink
blanket. The girl was wearing pink and more pink. Most of the other
characters were giving her and her unusual 'pet' a very wide berth.
But that may also have been due to the fact that she was chatting
happily with Fubuki of 'Shirahime Shou', as a very large black demon-
wolf with red eyes sat watchfully nearby.
Ferio of 'Rayearth' was trading sword fighting pointers with Kenichi
and Prince Ledan of 'Derayd'. The Magic Knights were next to them,
chatting with Mifuu Mizukagami from 'CGK' and the female lead from
'Shin Shunkaden'. For some reason there was a computer terminal set
up in the middle of the grass in that area, too. It wasn't plugged
in to anything, however, it seemed to be working just fine. Lan of
'Clover' and Minoru Kokubunji of 'Chobits' were having some sort of
involved discussion over it, while Yuzuki stood attentively beside
them. Nearby was a platform beneath a red and white awning, where a
solid oak bar had been transported in. Kazuhiko and Lafarga were
swapping war stories over drinks. Gingetsu was with them, but most
of his attention was diverted to watching Lan.
Underneath the same awning, a bunch of electronic equipment and a
large, sturdy table had been set up as an 'Angelic Layer' tournament
arena. The table had gathered a fairly large crowd, as Misaki
Suzuhara's Angel Doll battled against another doll who was shrouded
from head-to-toe in black ninja garb. Icchan, wearing his
ever-present lab-coat, lurked in the background, rubbing his hands
with glee.
Unnoticed by others, in the shadows on the fringes of the field,
Tatsumi Houjyo and Kyousuke Kaga of 'Yumegari' stood silently
surveying the characters who had come to this gathering. The Dream
Hunter and her Dream Watcher made no attempt to mingle with the
others. They simply observed.
"Don't you think it's strange," the Dream Watcher remarked, adjusting
his glasses on the bridge of his nose. "To see so many people, so
different, all bound together by a single thing."
Tatsumi was silent for a long time. The breeze caught at her
straight black hair, and ruffled the skirt of her black sailor
uniform. "None of them are dreaming now," she remarked at last.
Kyousuki looked at her. "Maybe it's because that's all they really
are."
In a nearby sun-lit area, a group of three people were camped out on
a yellow picnic blanket. Heideki Motosuwa sighed, twisting a poor,
defenseless piece of grass into knots. "I don't know why we bothered
to come all the way out here. That train ride was expensive. And
our series hasn't even been around for that long."
"What are you complaining about? The Imonoyama Group paid for the
tickets. Besides," Shinbo muttered with his mouth full, "there's
free food."
"Chii," the cute persocon beside Heideki added helpfully.
Somehow the top few buttons of her shirt had come open. Heideki
reached out to tug it over her shoulder again. He started to
fasten it securely back into place, when he was interrupted by a
terrified scream from above. He looked up in time to see a flash of
blue and white and light brown an instant before he was flattened
beneath a young girl who had apparently fallen from the sky. A
moment later, a piece of toast bounced off his head.
"I'm sorry!" the girl cried, nearly decapitating him with her brown
school bag by accident. "I'm late, I'm late!" She scrambled to get
off of him and disappeared into a crowd of students from the Art Club
of the CLAMP School.
He looked up again, and barely moved out of the way as more people
tumbled from the cloudless sky onto the very spot he had just
occupied. he thought numbly.
Then he blinked as that thought sank in. The collection of women screeched gleefully,
bounding off in the same direction that the girl in the blue and
white
school uniform had gone.
"Chii."
Heideki glanced over rather distractedly. To his immediate alarm,
saw that Chii was staring at an article of clothing that had been
discarded on the ground. It looked sort of like a bra, only it had
fuzzy things in some places and pointy things in other places, and
there were tassels hanging off....
Chii picked it up rather cluelessly, then held it to her own chest.
The pointy and fuzzy things settled in all the right places.
"WAAAAHHH! Okay, those ladies were *not* a good influence on
you...."
Meanwhile, one of the girl/boy pairs from 'Watashi no Sukina Hito'
had wandered over to a collection of shady looking characters who had
claimed one of the tents all to themselves. They were casting
threatening looks at anyone who got too close. The group included
Lord Zagato, Kataharaitai and several of her black-clad masked
minions, Tatra and Tarta, Aska and her followers, and Taishakuten and
his generals, among others.
"You don't belong here," a red-eyed demon with black feathered wings
wearing the name tag 'Koryuu' informed the two encroachers haughtily.
"You're trespassing in the nemesis section. It would be better for
you to go back to the series you came from."
The girl and boy exchanged glances and nodded in agreement. As they
were leaving, they overheard Barus complaining to Cassablanca. "Do
you know how hard it is to be a truly evil CLAMP character? I mean a
truly evil one, with no hidden motivations about doing bad things
because of "honor" or "duty", or even worse, because of "love". It's
shameful. A true bad-guy can hardly get a bit-part anymore. Most of
these losers don't deserve to wear the title of "evil". And some of
the ones that are *truly* evil excuse themselves from associating
with us because they have "split personalities", and insist on going
in
their "good" guises today." He cast a glare over at the core group
of RG Veda characters. Cassablanca just looked bored.
The girl and boy passed by one of the refreshment tables. There Erii
Chuusonji and Sukiyabashi of 'Duklyon' were taking plates and helping
themselves to some of the delicacies that the CLAMP School Cooking
Club had provided for the event. A blond haired man got in line
behind them. Erii's eyes narrowed as she looked over at him. She
and
Sukiyabashi might be on break, but they were still part of CLAMP
School security, and this fellow looked like a party-crasher.
"Hey," she said. "You're not allowed at this event. You're from X."
Yuuto Kigai smiled charmingly and produced his gold-lettered
invitation. "Actually I'm here on behalf of 'Hagun Seisenki', so
it's alright. Lucky for me, CLAMP likes to recycle characters."
Utako Ohkawa, The CLAMP School Kindergarten President, was waiting
behind him in line. Her sharp gaze caught movement from the edge of
the tablecloth that draped near the ground. Looking around carefully
to be sure no one was watching, she lifted the cloth and looked
underneath.
Someone was sitting on the ground, black cape tucked around him and
top-hat clutched under one arm. Utako's violet eyes got very large.
"20 Masks!" she hissed. "What are you doing hiding under the table!"
"Waiting for everyone to go home again," the young thief said
miserably. "My mothers insisted on coming, and if I hide here long
enough, they won't be able to tell me they want Yasha-ou's Yama-to,
or Lieutenant Colonel Gingetsu's sunglasses, or one of the Mashin."
Utako drew in a breath to object, then paused. Instead, her
expression lit with sympathy. "Wait here," she instructed firmly.
"I'll go and get us both some cake."
At a pavillion set up by the small artificial lake, a blond haired
boy was surveying the proceedings from behind a large white fan and
looking smug. Someone cleared their throat behind him, and he
pretended to be startled. "Suoh, you're back. Has everyone arrived?"
"Almost." The blue haired boy stepped up beside him. "I can't find
Akira, though."
Nokoru giggled. "That's because he's not here representing 'CCD',"
he said in an undertone. Suoh looked at him sharply, but the
President of the CLAMP School Elementary Division simply snapped his
fan shut and then opened it again, to reveal the words "Time for ice
cream!"
Suoh looked disapproving. "You're having an awful lot of fun with
this, Kaichou."
Nokoru only beamed. "It's a party, Suoh. That's the whole idea."
His gaze turned a little wistful. "Still, it would have been nice to
get more of the original people from 'Shoten' here. The doujinshi
characters are so hard to find nowadays. I'll have to set the CLAMP
School computer mainframe to work on that."
Suoh sweatdropped.
"Are you having fun, Suoh?" Nokoru asked sweetly.
"It will be a relief when this is over and we can get back to normal
council business." Suoh said carefully. He always became a little
nervous when Nokoru got that innocent look on his face.
"Well, in that case, we better get some ice cream quickly, before
everyone decides to leave." The Elementary Division President
stepped out from under the pavilion, headed over in the direction of
the food. Suoh stood there, just *waiting* for the words he knew had
to come next. One second, two....
"On the way, we can start planning the CLAMP *Second* Annual Picnic
for Under Appreciated Series." Nokoru said over his shoulder as he
continued walking. He was aware that the Elementary Division
Secretary hadn't started moving forward yet. But he also knew from
experience that Suoh would never let himself lag very far behind. He
smiled.
"...And Tokyo Tower will be the perfect place for us to host it."
